Hey, I have searched but I haven't found any threads that exist, although I am sure someone has asked this before. When did glassine stamp heroin bags first start appearing? If I had to guess, I would say the 1970s in NYC, bronx but I'm not sure.

When I was in Rochester, the bags were actually little plastic ones that had shit stick to the side, and were nearly three times the cost of better NJ bags.

Any old timers wanna weigh in here? When did glassine envelopes stamped with logos appear on the streeets?

It seems to depend on what city you live in.i first saw stamp bags in ny ..it was 96 i was 19.first started using prior to thst in chicago ..it was and still is in little tinfoil wrappers. I live out west now, and its in balloons. And I say its wretched stuff.

According to a archived BL thread I found through Google, NYC dealers were the first to start using glassine bags. Started in the '60's.
The first stamped bags were the (in)famous "Blue Magic" bags. They appeared first around 1970.
Blue Magic started out as ridiculously potent bags of dope. Killed a bunch of people in Harlem. If you want more info on the bags and the man behind them, watch "American Gangster".

Consider yourself lucky, at least you can find any at all here in the roc twotoo :-(

btw, do you live in the city or a suburb?

95land, you are WRONG. Yes, that happened, but those certainly weren't the first ever glassine stamp bags lol. They've been around since the 1960's for sure, probably even the '50s or before, and it probably started in NYC.

I'm saying glassine baggies probably pre-date the widespread use of plastic bags in any form.....not sure when plastic bags first came around...

I'd say at least the '60s probably earlier, maybe much earlier

I think drugs like cocaine and heroin were sold in folded up paper/tickets/something similar before plastic baggies or especially glassines came about. I mean who thought of the idea of stamp bags, it's killer idea, but is also time consuming, there has to be easier ways..

I know when I used to get my black tar heroin, there was rarely a baggie, it was just the tar wrapped in a tiny piece or plastic ripped off the bag, or the corner of a sandwich bag for bigger amounts (ounce).

"Stamp Bags" are actually supposed to be used to collect stamps, that was the originial purpose of them...

Didn't I say I got the info off a archived BL thread? As in, it's not my info, but it was the best source of info I could find following that search.

I found very limited info regarding years/dates. What's your source of information?

I mean who thought of using these bags originally used to collect stamps to use to start selling heroin. That would be interesting thing to know.

I guess you did, didn't read that part. But what you were talking about is about a movie from 6 or so years ago, movie based on a true story, but certainly not something to be used as a timeline on glassine stamp bags. My source is just experience, from studying many drug books/drug movies/drug research/drug culture over the years, though that doesn't mean I am right, I am just guessing like everyone else here.

^LOL...I'm not trying to start shit, but I swear to GOD the glassine bags were meant for "stamp-collecting"....haha...honestly!

^ I BELIEVE you man, how did you not get that from my post? I was saying it would be interesting to know who thought to use stamp collecting bags to sell heroin in, that's all.

It's not a big deal, obviously. I just wanna make clear what's information from my own experience and what's not.

As far as the leap from stamp collecting to dope packaging, if you're looking for a moisture free, sealable means of packaging, can't do much better than the bags.
Some NY junkhead/pusher's wasting time in a hobby shop, see's stamp bags and has an epiphany....
That is my own conjecture. :-).

are you guys talking about the little wax paper baggies or the actual plastic baggies with a sealable top?

because I always liked when they came in both although some dudes would just double rubberband a bunch of the wax bags together and be like "here ya go" and its kind of like "oooo sweeeeet duddeee thanks...."

We/they're talking about the folded over, most times stamped, usually sealed with scotch tape, 10 to a B, waxy glassines.
I hate those tiny Ziplock fuckers. So hard to get all the shit out. I'd always end up having to cut them in half.

Yes, I was talking about the waxy glassiness folded over usually 4 times. The tiny ziplocks are the worst when they are SEALED at the top, like melted shut. It's especially frustrating when you're in withdrawal and need that shit!! It's like the worst joke on you ever at the time.

I actually liked it better when they were in individual baggies because it kept some of the humidity out and it wouldnt stick to the wax baggies as much. Could have just been an old wives tale but it makes sense to me.

and I would always just rip them open the little zipper at the top is such a tease, if you force it too hard on the little coke baggies you can have a snowglobe around you real quick so I would just use a toothpick or the little piece of plastic on my sneaker laces to pry it open.

I love the stamp bags. The tiny little ziplock style bags are horrible. So much product wasted for me
