they caught the bomber guy alive.. hiding in an old rowing boat in someones back garden. classy

he wants to hope he gets the death penalty. no matyrdom no seventy-two virgins. didnt you read the small-doctrine? god doesnt cut deals, aside from the whole repent-on-your-deathbed-after-a-life-of-debauchery thing, anyway. thats my way to jennah, alhamdulilah

He was only 19 & cos they shot the older Brother we will never really know the truth just lots of conjecture , loads of documentary's & eventually a Film .

don't think it's remotely religious. It's more like disaffected / disenfranchised youth school shooting on steroids, chechen style. Grim stuff all round, but I'm glad they captured him alive so he can explain his actions.

Chechan connection and apparent religious devotion may suggest a whiff of wahabi about it. The way it was done seems more "school shooting on steroids" though. If I were a speculating man I'd mostly be speculating on the latter hypothesis.

In related news, found this quite interesting...

Boston bombing: How internet detectives got it very wrong

Can't imagine it being much fun being named as a suspect by fukkin 4chan and the like. Not sure playing at amateur hour detectives is very helpful. Except in cases where it is. Not sure which side I fall on so for.

4chan are a bunch of tossers and best avoided unless you are 12. I like the idea of people using the internet for the greater good but not in a kind of popcorn eating 'IM A POLICEMAN TOO BECAUSE I WATCHED CSI' type way.

care needs to be taken.

the media certainly shouldn't fucking look at that shit as being real.

That's fukin scary , having a load of randoms (the law of averages dictate that some of them are Pure Mental) trying to be sleuths .

Kinda like a young Dylan.

The "police hunt" reminded me of when they were hunting Moaty. What was it about 14000 of them unable to find a wounded 19 year old who escaped on foot? Fucking useless. Like the UK police, all they're good for is fishing half-smoked joints out of toilet bowls.

I think that may be the scariest part. As mentioned in the article it's bad enough having speculation on the intranetz and speculation on the rolling news channels, but put them together feeding off each other and you get an absolute clusterfuck.

Quite. It's very easy to point the finger and post names, addresses, contact numbers and other personal details (which may or may not be accurate) but very hard to take them back cos you guessed wrong. Is like when the tabloids printed details and pix of people they thought were paedos whether they actually were or not. Mob justice is not justice at all.

Wasn't that an Alexei Sayle line? - "Here, didn't you kill my brother?"

I find it sickening how there were cops with their arms up celebrating their "victory", bunch of cowards acting like they'd just won a battle among equals, several hundred, heavily armed men with body armour and armored vehicles to catch a 19 year old boy, wow what heroes. Scum

Interesting point made on local radio yesterday, when a white American goes on a killing spree they are described as mentally ill, anyone else is a terrorist.

far more heroic leaving a bomb to blow up an eight year old kid watching his dad finish a marathon, eh kenny?

Nup. Neither bombers nor polices come close to being heroic.

As to whether or not it should be classed as a terrorist attack, whilst I tend to agree that bomb + crowd = terrorism in a fairly straightforward sense, I also think that terrorism as we generally think of it needs to have a political motive which we don't know is the case here yet. Plenty of folks have bombed crowds but we don't call them terrorists. Unabomber in the US and that bloke who set off a nail bomb in Brick Lane a while back pop into mind as being "nutters" rather than "terrorists".

Yeah terrorists are mostly political or religious in their reasons for carrying out their bombings.
Wasn't the Brick Lane bloke just a lone nutcase who had a problem with homosexuals.
