Hey, so I'm new to posting but I'm pretty familiar with bluelight.

Anywhoo, this is something I haven't found any posts, articles, or threads anywhere and it's driving me crazy!!!
I'm no newbie to drugs, but I just got into opiates the beginning of last year (my first opiate was dilaudid, which sucks because everything else seems like nothing compared to that high).

The other day however I had the worst reaction to morphine sulfate. (It was 30mg ER, the round purple pill)
The odd part is that I had taken these same pills from the same prescription about a month ago, and it just got me high before.
This time was different. I scratched off the protective layer and crushed it up and snorted about 10 mg (I've taken more in the past too, but I figured my tolerance was gone after the long break), my friend snorted the remaining 20 and was all opied out, but shortly after he left I started to have trouble breathing and I got a nasty fever. My face also was swollen and I was also shaking quite a bit, my heart was also racing like I was having a panic attack.
I tried to remain calm, ate some food and took deep breaths. However, it didn't seem to help and I didn't feel any euphoria or relaxation.

The reaction occurred about 15 minutes after only taking it and lasted about 4 hours. I don't understand because these same pills were fucking awesome only a month ago, and I'm worried that I won't be able to do any opiates anymore in fear that I might react this way again :(

I was hoping some one else has experienced this or can help, I really love opiates!!! Is it possible to just randomly acquire an allergy to morphine???

Other factors- I've been drinking almost every day for the past month and a half, not too much Mostly wine, sometimes vodka. The day this happened was maybe the 3rd day without drinking. Would that effect the high at all?

Anybody??

well, morphine is notorious for it's histamine release. it probably releases the most out of all the popular, conventional opioids used in medicine currently. so that (the morphine) is the most likely culprit responsible for the histamine release, yes! so now thaf we know that we're wanting to look for possible or adequate solutions which work most of the time, right? yeah. we are.

these incluse -
*Anti-histamines. First generation anti-histamines usually produce sedation as a side-effect which may or may not be desirable as it can help nod off from the sedation while there is no sedation from the second generation. they simply get rid of the itchies and scratchies with NO effect on the high otherwise - which can be a bitch once it passes a certain point of joyful itching.

that's what you're after, yeah?

I'd hate to hear how codeine affects him :/ diphenhydramine works well for antihistamine and nod potentiation. If you have access to cyclizine I'd go that route though as its a faaaantastic antihistamine.

Thank you this was helpful! :)
So your saying that it was probably just the morphine due to it high histamine release, not an allergy to opiates in general?
Would similar pain killers like dilaudid or percocet cause this type of reaction after this incident?
It would just suck if I had this reaction to opiates for the rest of my life, not only was it terrifying, but I'd sure miss dillies because their fucking awesome. =D

Buy you a nice big pack of benadryl...

Hey, don’t worry it happens all the time. Make sure you lay off the morphine, and switch it up...

Allergic reactions are very prominent with classic opiates.

Some people are just not meant to use them.

Oh god, I'm traumatized by benadryl XD
My friends convinced me to try tripping on it once and now even 2 or three makes me zone out and hear lil backwards whispers haha
If I take a benadryl will dilauded be safe? I just got some dillies and I want to be sure I don't go through that again. I'm still confused as to why I got this reaction after never having a problem with morphine. Thanks ya'll for the feedback, I'll play it on the safe side and test lil does at a time.

Tripping on it, and using it as a medicament are two completely different things. When you take it in excess, it becomes a deliriant and induces frightening psychosis. If used in moderation, it does what it's intended to do -- blocking histamine release.

It's completely safe to take it in reasonable dosages with an opioid.

If you still don't like it, there are other anti-histamines which you should to try an explore. Better ones IMO.

The difference in reaction could be down to you defeating the extended-release mechanism, and exposing yourself to the entire dose of morphine in one shot as opposed to a slower and steadier release.

Diphenhydramine is the golden treatment for allergies. First generation antihistamines FTW!

I don't think you will get this reaction taking dilaudid. My sister went to the hospital and they were going to give her morphine but she said she was allergic. So instead they administered dilaudid and she was fine. It wouldn't hurt to take with benedryl but you probably won't need it.

Opiates are probably the most bold allergens to a majority of people.

Histamine release is part of the whole experience to know and love. There would be no warmth the the experience without it.

The semi synthetics and full synthetics have less histamine action. Hydromorphone (dilaudid) had very little if any histamine release for me.

that's what is so alluring about IVing morphine for me. the almost crippling histamine release before letting out a big gasp for air when the wave of euphoria comes over.
the mighty morphine Valium ranger has spoken!

The OPs question is answered from a harm reduction stand point, and conversation is now going towards potentiation, which is fine, but not the focus of this thread. There is plenty of other related reading on this should the OP be interested. Closed. PM any questions.
