out west somewhere ..lol
I'm wondering especially from anyone successfully gone off clinic without taper.. hoe long to before can expect some quality of life or some resemblance to that??
I'm on 22 day no taper no use of opiates.
Much appreciated...

It's dependent on the dose and duration of your methadone treatment, and probably your opiate/oid consumption prior to that. Possibly months. :|

it depends on dose, but people certainly have done it. in most places when you get arrested they refuse to give you methadone and it happens every day, usually people don't die. if there's benzos involved death can be slow and painful, and tragically it happens occasionally. if you really want to get off methadone you should taper down to a reasonable dose before either jumping off or switching to suboxone to do a quick taper.

As for longevity methadone w/d are long, probably longer than any other opiate. they are brutal too. not trying to scare you just trying to inform you so you dont go do anything silly like stop going to the clinic and moving out of state.

Oh wow ..yeah the first time attempting this, I was at
t 135...couldn't do it..hospital..etc after 12 days.
I'm impressed and cheered up by that:) keep being
Told this not possible..which makes me want to do it ev; more:) but were you very weak??

But surely if was going to die it would have occurred during that initial stage where more violentlylI'll..??just weak..not sleeping well..etc al

I went off 120mg with no taper. I'd been at that dosage for about a year. I'd say at least 30 days.

I'll take good news..lol..and congrats.I WAS unable to do it at that dose.12 days and was in the hospital n back on the freaking clinic...was trying but mind over matter not always possible. Impressed!!

No dude..I'm habla la methadone withdrawal...on an android while shaking. So...I wont say what I'd like to..just that even after 22
Days of hell apparently I still know how to talk to people appropriately even if its not typed that way.have a great night. Really!!

Benzos will help ameliorate some of your symptoms. Just don't get hooked on those as well, the w/d from benzos is in the same league as methadone.

Was helpful...so...I'm here for YOU , too, bro...very concernerned.

UPallNITEgirl, please don't triple post like that. Use the edit button if you want to add something else.

As to the OP's question, the acute phase of methadone withdrawal can last weeks even after a long taper.. but jumping off at a stabilized high dose... :\ You're going to be in for it. It will take months. Some people still report PAWS and not feeling quite right a year in.

I was on MMT for ten years. I tapered so rapidly that I might as well have jumped off all at once. I went through pure hell. There are a lot of medications that can help though. Zofran has been shown in studies to cut WDs by 80% ,its non addictive and should be easy to get, Baclofen has been shown to help opiate cravings and lower symptoms of WDs in studies if you are on the right dose ,barbituates or benzos help with sleep, DXM can help some people but Ive never tried it in WD, some find neurotinin helps, lopermeride is a must, modafinil helped me with PAWs along with a SNRI, etc, etc. See a doctor that spealizes in addiction and see if they can help you .Some of these meds are addictive or dangerous so it's best to be under the care of a doctor. Methadone is one of the hardest drugs to get off of so if you are having a rough time I would try to get some help hon. But remember...you have went this long without it!! You are doing amazing! Remember when you were going to the clinic and you never thought this was possible?
Anyway, feel free to PM me. I went through the hell of methadone WDs and subsequent PAWs. I'll give you any advice and tips I have. Good luck!

To answer your question OP, I was able to start sleeping again after the first month. If you keep a journal you can see that week to week you are improving even if you don't notice it.

It took me about a month to be able to sleep again. That insomnia is really brutal as it makes you, or rather, it made me, delirious and become real loopy on top of everything else. All in all though the acute wd were over after a month for sure (I had been on 105-110mg and it took a few days for the wd to REALLY kick in.)

The problem with dropping methadone cold turkey at a high dose is that the PAWS are fucking misserable-I mean FUCKING BRUTAL!! I would never have lasted the 4-5 months clean had I not been stuck in a rehab on a mountain in Pennsylvania during the winter. I was given nothing but fucking Prozac, and it didnt help me one bit. If you want to make it through the PAWS I would definitely want some mild stimulant like modafinil or Vyvanse and some anxiolytic drug-doesnt need to be a benzo, gabapentin/neurontin works alright as well.

Very true. A lot of people end up just going back to their DOC either to stay, or even to detox from it instead of methadone, because it's usually a shorter acting substance without such a prolonged and agonizing withdrawal.
