it can be easy to feel hopeless when you're struggling with any addiction. i would like to hear from some people who have successfully kicked an opiate habit with suboxone. what were you on, and what was your suboxone taper schedule? how difficult was it to stay clean once you 'jumped off' the sub?

I have no personal experience, although sevral of my friends are and have been on subutex/suboxone for a long time. The doctor seems reluctant to even begin the tapering process with any of them. It has been more than a year of daily 8 - 12 mg doses, depending on which mate it is. It seems more like, when and only when you're ready to taper. They begin the process, as there is bound to be a higher chance of continued abstinence when you do truely wish to kick the addiction.

I imagine if you as the doctor who runs the bupe program this question, he can answer it for you. Good luck, it's a scary step!

I went from about 2-3 grams of 50-60% pure heroin (smoked) to 18 mg of suboxone , the transition was hell (induced withdrawal) now I have been feeling as if I'm walking on sunshine for the last 2 weeks. Probably going to taper down to 2-4 mg and I intend to stay on it for the coming 10 years.

would you feel sick if you took less than 18 mg? to me that seems like a shitload of sub, maybe i am just being hyper-anxious about my own habit.

I'm not really afraid of being sick , it's more the crippling depression/paws that worry's me. Also I was on 16 mg of subbutex 7 years ago , considering the tremendous increase in tolerance that i experienced over the years,e i don't think my dose of sub is outrageous.

What do you mean by being hyper-anxious about your own habit? you are considering getting onto a buprenorphine maintenance program?

I mean I'm not sure how bad my habit really is. I can still get high with < 2 mg of sub. I am not considering entering a program.

Have you ever kicked the habit before? Cause I can tell you the first time can be like nothing at all ,I've had flues more intense than when I first kicked my 300 mg codeine\PT habit of about 4-5 months.

i think i experienced wds from a 16 day period of using h and dilaudid multiple times a day with only two days off. it was 3 pretty bad days but like you said, not the worst thing ever.

i do not intend to go near dope again but i am worried about the possibility of "mild" but long lasting sub wd's.
