Silk Road: the online drug marketplace that officials seem powerless to stop

SR is an overpriced gamble imo. And isn't customs just for international mail?

SR is just a hub friend. And for the most part Customs is for international mail.

It is the btc that interest me.

Ya'll should have invested early. ;)

Dilo I am doing the same thing you are doing but with something else thats even better than btc

I actually don't see them shutting it down without greatly encroaching on freedoms/privacy. Not that it couldn't happen. But the silk road is nestled in a system that is used legitimately as well. The only real way to get it is to take down the other stuff. And bit coins have a legitimate following as well.

Another thing... This involves the use of institutions to transfer funds. Now- not before, drug sales are taxed. And by using the USPS and Etc., economies benefit.

I highly doubt SR will get shut down but even if it did, it's not going to make a significant impact on "the war on drugs". Supply and demand wins every time.
Think of what we could be doing with the money that's going to "the war on drugs". Seems like a waste.

Yeah, I agree. There are jails/prisons that have people incarcerated for drug related crimes when in their place should be murderers or sexual offenders. And then there's the whole retribution vs rehabilitation issue.

How do you cash out as a seller? It seems safe enough to buy the bitcoins as a buyer but when you cash them as a seller do you get like a cheque or something? Is there a way to turn them into cash without involving your own bank account or identifying yourself in any way? If you had a large number of bitcoins how easy is the liquidity?

I would trust it over most people I could get stuff from locally. Reviews. Ratings. Pot direct or close to directly from growers. Choice of organic. If I lived where it was legal I could have that option anyways. Or... if I grew it. I did not say I use SR... but I have browsed. Eh.

The sellers I believe might if their income is significant from SR launder in some way.

One thing I can see happening is advancement in "sniffers" which might eventually operate under the guise, appropriately, of bomb and biological threat detection. We have heard of drugs of the NBOMe series being referred to as chemical weapons. Definitions... We can work with them and bend them. There are technologies on the horizon, I have heard, that will be able to penetrate solids, and alert for anything "dangerous" based on some ability to distinguish molecular make up.

I just hope we legalize my favorites (classics) before this, if it does happen, happens.

That tech is already here. Projected gamma x-rays at alternating wavelengths are used in most major ports around the world to detect any contraband hidden inside of shipping containers and such. It's not a perfect deterrent by any means, but combine it with sniffer dogs and it's does a good job. Obviously however, as we excel at adaptation, every new deterrent is inevitably undermined.

gamma x-rays at alternating wavelengths

Those words, I do not think you know what they mean. Gamma rays are not X-rays; and I'm pretty sure ports won't use lethal, cancer-causing, ionising gamma radiation (not that X-rays are not harmful too, but gamma rays are the kind of shit given off by uranium) Sure, gov't uses X-ray and shit to "find contraband", but it's not like they are using some sort of super molecular scanner. It doesn't take an idiot to notice inhomogeneity on an X-ray scan. What are those big, light, square objects shaped like bales of marijuana? Oh shit, they're marijuana! I guess unless you ship X-ray opaque things, like containers of lead shot or something, you'd be good to smuggle, but otherwise....

And Fourier Raman can't scan through solid steel shipping containers. It needs line-of-sight. So you're still kind of fucked for determining molecular identity easily without tearing every container on every ship apart at every US port!

every new deterrent is inevitably undermined.

Loads of bananas and potassium-based ice melter sometimes still set off radiation detectors at ports and borders... And there are lots of cases of border guards being bribed measly sums (not even in the tens of thousands) to "ignore" shipments coming in. The human element will always be there.
