Just a slap or blow torched feet?
I've got a nice warm body bag for ya.
Shambles I know you fancy me but lets keep the innuendos out of here please huh?
I'm sure I'd sit down and have nice cuppa tea and a chat should he ever happen to cross my path. I'm sure he'd know where to find me if the mood takes him.

footstools and pouffes.. under the feet.
If Jesus did exist.. He was just another cult leader. An L. Ron Hubbard of his time.
Raas: Guess what? I'll get back to ya on that gigapost
(i do wish you'd not respond to so much all at once though - feels like a slog to respond to even though it really isn't)
Ricolasnice said:Yes raas.. people have replied to my posts in P&S.. But nobody has answered them.. anybody with a logical, rational mind can see that.. It just doesn't make sense to respond to OT passages with "BUT THAT'S THE OT!" "It was the law of the land!"..
Thing is. Every time I come back to post, the thread has grown by about 2 pages. So much to respond too.
I'll limit my selection next time, for both of our sakes.
There was quite a few responses, certainly a bit more complex than "BUT THATS THE OT!".
If you didn't listen to those responses, you won't listen to anything.
But hey. I don't want to get on with my study and want to waste some time so here's a quick recap.
-If you're trying to learn about God, look to Jesus who is "God in a person".
-Read the gospels. Jesus keeps defying the old law, which really pisses off the Pharisees.
-It's not all bad, he also states he's come to "fulfill the law"
-But this is not law that the pharisees corrupted
-When he says this he's referring "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the bweightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness"
-We infer that "Gods law" sorta got corrupted by the Pharisees and Sadducees who added hundreds of ceremonial rules
-The OT shows mans depiction of God. (a controlling tyrant)
-Jesus cleared up the confusion about his Daddy by becoming a physical representation.
-All is swell, everyone gets it now, and authors of the NT diss the OT some more
"No man ever believes the bible means what it says: he is always convinced it says what he means."
@Shambles.. I've noticed almost all christians do this. It seems as though instead of answering a question fully, they pile on a load of (normally completely irrelevant) bible info.. as if to dodge the question / point and confuse.
Yes.
So I've never read the Bible or had any inclination to but I've recently been studying parts of it in my course in relation to literature, references to the Bible in literature etc. And I've got to say I'm shocked at the violence. For instance we were talking about Jane Eyre and this passage came up that's apparently a reference to how according to the Bible, if a man thinks of another man's wife he needs to gauge his eyes out and cut off his right hand.
I'm sorry but what? How does a belief that's supposed to bring you peace and happiness propagate such violence?
I knew the Bible was violent but wow...
This is one of the reasons why I love Paradise Lost so much. Milton writes Satan as simply reacting to God's cruelty and from what I've seen, he's kind of got a point.
By now I've made it clear I don't believe in God or any kind of religion but for those of you that do, how dyou make sense of stuff like that?!
And please no meaningless (to me) quotations from the Bible, I'd rather hear your thoughts on the matter
P.S. NE, why did you ignore my fantastic spaghetti monster and marshmallow heaven analogy? Was quite proud of it![]()
I only have eyes for the Baby Jesus though. I'd nail him like he's never been nailed before![]()
