Drastic Tolerance Decrease/Klonopin Weirdness?

First of all, I've been taking 20mg Adderall XR everyday for over 3 years. During this time I've also been prescribed 1 - 1.5mg klonopin everyday (which I also take everyday). I've gone without Adderall at least a few times, but only for a week at the most. When I take my normal dose again, I feel like my heart is going to explode and I can't sleep even with klonopin 8(. After a couple days, my tolerance is back to normal and I can sleep.

I'm going to try taking an amphetamine break the week of spring break and was wondering why this happens and how I can prevent it. Is my tolerance really that flexible or is the klonopin a major contributing factor?

Btw I already know I've been screwing with my brain way too much, that's why I want to take a break from Adderall and hopefully taper off.

The clonazepam and your adjusted neurochemistry are effective at suppressing a dose that you're tolerant to. Once you're no longer tolerant to it, both will find it somewhat difficult to cope.

What I believe Chrom is trying to communicate to you is that it is normal for this to happen after taking a break, and that maybe you should try and reduce your dose the first few days of medication immediately following a break.

^This.

So are you asking if the fact that you take clonazepam is somehow contributing to your rapid decrease in tolerance when you stop Adderall for a while and your rapid increase in tolerance after you start taking it daily again? I'm not sure, but it's not uncommon for those kind of tolerance changes to Adderall to happen in people who are not on benzos, so I wouldn't assume the clonazepam has much, if anything, to do with it.

I think Chromophobia was trying to explain that when your tolerance to Adderall is lowered after a break and then you start using it again, your normal dose of clonazepam can't counteract the insomnia caused by the Adderall because you are no longer tolerant to that dose of Adderall at first. Solution: take less Adderall after a break.

That makes sense. I guess I just assumed it wasn't possible for my tolerance to go down so much after only a week. The undesirable side-effects are extremely noticeable when I start taking it again.
