Less than a year after he was suspended by NASCAR for a failed drug test, A.J. Allmendinger will return on racing's grandest stage with the team that fired him.

Team Penske will field Allmendinger in the No. 2 Dallara-Chevorlet for the Indianapolis 500 on May 26 and the April 7 race at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Ala. IZOD will be the sponsor for Allmendinger, 31, in both races.

Allmendinger lost his Sprint Cup ride after 17 races with Penske last season when a random test was positive for an amphetamine (he claimed he unknowingly took Adderall). Team owner Roger Penske said his team had to terminate Allmendinger to stay in line with its company policy, but he had left open the door on a possible return and invited him to last year's Izod IndyCar Series finale, just a few weeks after Allmendinger was reinstated by NASCAR.

Im glad the kid is getting a second chance. His story about not knowing it was adderal is pretty suspect but I dont like seeing anyone lose there job over a positive UA
