You know that beautiful halfway point between consciousness and sleep you sometimes slip into, when you're really tired and your mind completely relaxes? You're aware of where you are, but only just, and your sense of self has disappeared into pleasant depersonalisation. Your life story becomes as absurd as the hypnagogic imagery lulling your senses. It's a beautiful in-between state where your grip on reality releases and you find yourself swimming in a semi-lucid dream.

Have you ever induced a state like this with a hallucinogenic drug? How much were you able to direct the experience? In short, what's the dreamiest trip you've ever had, and how did you get there?

A page on common oneirogens.

I've experienced something similar after smoking a large amount of cannabis and laying down in my bed but not letting myself fully drift off to sleep. I was listening to music (The Tower Recordings, excellent band...) and I found myself in a strange almost-dream state wherein I felt as I was walking around a peaceful psychedelic landscape despite being fully aware of my surroundings. It was a very difficult sensation to describe but I enjoyed it immensely.

I noted Stilton on that list too. I have eaten large amounts of it before but to be honest, couldn't distinguish the effect from a placebo. Maybe co-administration with an MAOI might work? Cheezhuasua style.

Drink a shite ton of coffee during work, eat healthily and drink water, finish work. Crash in bed lie there with your eyes shut. You won't sleep because it isn't bed time and you are still somewhat stimmed. This always puts me in a nice hypnagogic state.
Sensory deprivation tanks will do the same I believe.

Ganzfeld effect will imitate a sensory deprivation tank.

Hypnagogic states can scare the living shit out of you sometimes so be careful. Especially with auditory hallucinations. AKA Screaming.
Coming down from MDXX when you shut your eyes you 'insta-dream' which is the same thing i believe.
Z - hypnotics < not the best route.
Meditating is apparently similar. On another note look up the negative dB room.
