Hi guys,

I was looking to get a tattoo done in Melbourne at some point in the near future. I was wondering if anyone can point me the right direction of a good tattooist? I'd like them to be good rather than cheap as it is something I will have for my entire life.

I was also wondering how much it typical costs an hour to get one done? How much does it cost them to do a design too? I have a rough idea of what I want but need a bit more inspiration on how I want it drawn. Can you guys point in me in the right direction of some good forums or websites for tattoos?

Steer clear of Victims of Ink in Port Melbourne. They are all good to great artists but during a 4.5 hour session there I witnessed two of their artists ask to cancel each others appointments the next day & one had done no artwork for a client who was getting a full sleeve started. He could not even remember what the sleeve was going to be & was far more concerned with going out & getting fucked up that night rather than prepare artwork for a huge session. That was in addition to the really condescending attitude displayed to their customers & potential customers. Luckily my guy did some really great work but on principal I will not be back except to finish what I started with my artist.

Do you know what style of tattoo you want psytaco? Find an artist who specialises in what style you want & get custom work. A good artist will usually cost between $140-200 per hour but you get what you pay for. Also there may be a waiting list to get a sitting but that is the sign of a tattoo artist in demand. I have had to wait anywhere up to 3 months to get an appointment so be patient.
