^First proper Season 3 promo. Kinda fun to pick out scenes from the books. Just little snippets, but cool to see the images outside of my head.
Amongst the expected stuff, is that....
NSFW:
Theon on the flaying "table?"
If so, I'm a little surprised they're breaking from the books and revealing that part of the storyline so early.
NSFW:
I realize his torture probably started shortly after he lost Winterfell. So, the timeline does fit. I just figured they'd make people wait longer for that bit of revenge. Maybe they figure it will offset the riots following The Red Wedding.

Doesn't matter. Really looking forward to the shows return.

Scenes I can tell: Dany and the Unsullied (betray of the Masters?). Wildings going over the wall. Dunno about the others.

Maybe they'll answer the question if:

Theon's been unmanned.

I never understood why GRRM wanted to just hint that he may have lost his man parts. There's such a abundance of eunuch's in ASOIAF, what's one more? I found that kind of odd.
I do wonder if they'll skimp on the level and length of time of Theon's torture, and/or his loss of parts. The physical transformation alone would be hard to pull off.
I suppose a good way to emphasize the severity of it without making him look like a withered old man would be to declare that he did indeed get gelded.

NSFW:
A few other scenes I think I noticed aside from the ones you mentioned-
Jaime screaming, losing his hand
Dondarrion and the Hound having their duel
Hoster Tully's funeral pyre
Orell warging
Ygritte drawing back a arrow directed at Jon?

Also,
NSFW:
Is that Tormund scaling the wall? He never went over, if I remember correctly.

I figured that we heard about it from

Theon's inner voice, and Theon didn't place that high of a priority on it in his current mental state.

I was gonna go back and look at his chapters in ADWD's. I think you're right. I believe he alludes to it in his internal dialog when he's riding with Roose Bolton and also when one of the spearwive's is coming on to him. I'll go back and check.
I just found it odd that at times he lists how many fingers and toes he's lost, but he's less specific about losing THAT and/or THOSE.
I think you're correct in that, in his dehumanized state, sex or the memory of sex has lost any significance. So, as a result, his fingers, toes and teeth would be much more important.
I'm gonna check the book, just to check my memory. Then I'm going to stop thinking about it. :).

I think I need the new season to start. As well as The Winds of Winter to get finished at a quicker than glacial pace.
I'm not a huge fantasy fan, but I miss those books so much. Somebody recommended "The Black Company" but I've found it really hard to get into. I got "The Blade Itself" which, so far, seems much more promising. Is there any other books/series of books that someone can recommend that's fairly similar to ASOIAF?

For the spoiler discussion:

NSFW:
Theon hints at it when he talks about "the other thing" Ramsey took from him. During Arya's bedding, he even says "I have no..." when Ramsey tells him to prepare "Arya" for him. The most plausible interpretation that I can think of is that Theon has lost his cock, balls, or both.

I'm wondering if the TV series is going to be able to pull of Theon's story arc. In the books, by book #3, Theon comes off as a complete bastard. But when he appears in book #5, it's very hard not to pity him.

So, for recommendations, "Name of the Wind" seems to be suggested a lot.

Agreed that GRRM has to write faster. I can't wait 7 years for Book #6.

So I just watched the entire second season today after realizing I could get all the episodes with HBO on demand. I fucking need it to be March 31st already!

Thanks for finding the quotes. I was trying to find the book cause I also wanted to reread one of the final chapters. I guess I still need to find it.
I will order "Name of the Wind." Thanks.
I know he's way underestimated how long some of the previous books are going to take him to finish.
I read something in which he was asked about a time frame for TWOW. I believe he actually said, "Who the hell knows." Not exactly encouraging.

NSFW:
Regarding accurately pulling off Theon's arc.... He's similar, in a way, to Jaime. In that, for the first couple books it's impossible to not end up absolutely hating both of them. The traditional TV thing to do would be to somehow keep them in the villain roles.
Unfortunately, yeah, it can't be that simple. It doesn't fit at all. Theon becomes a sympathetic figure and Jaime becomes likable, in a weird way. I can say that Jaime's easily now one of my favorite characters.
A show full of morally ambiguous characters is great when done right. But, I certainly agree that it gets significantly more difficult to translate to bite sized TV, the further they go into the books. Maybe even impossible to convey to a lot of viewers.
I think Theon might actually be a little simpler then Jaime. Just because Jaime's evolution(?) is much more gradual and nuanced. I don't know...

Ep. 301 – Valar Dohaeris

Ep. 303 – Walk of Punishment
Ep. 304 – And Now His Watch is Ended
Ep. 305 – Kissed by Fire
Ep. 306 – to be determined
Ep. 307 – The Bear and the Maiden Fair
Ep. 308 – to be determined
Ep. 309 – The Rains of Castamere
Ep. 310 – Mhysa

^I think I've got some of them figured.....
NSFW:
Red Wedding's supposed to be episode 9? I've heard 8 or 9. "Rains of Castamere" could be a title for Joffrey's wedding or the Red one.
I read they went all out on TRW. There was a casting call for amputee's. Also, massive tents on fire and a head being sowed to "something" during production.
I was kind of hoping they'd skip the Robb/Grey Wind defilement. Was the most painful part, IMO. Oh well.

Interesting take on Catylin & Jamie (saw this on another forum):

(Books 1-5 spoilers)
[SPOIL]
Jamie at Harrenhal:

Both parties left Harrenhal the same morning, beneath a cold grey sky that promised rain. Ser Aenys Frey had marched three days before, striking northeast for the kingsroad. Bolton meant to follow him. "The Trident is in flood," he told Jaime. "Even at the ruby ford, the crossing will be difficult. You will give my warm regards to your father?"
"So long as you give mine to Robb Stark."
"That I shall."

During the Red Wedding:

A man in dark armor and a pale pink cloak spotted with blood stepped up to Robb. "Jaime Lannister sends his regards." He thrust his longsword through her son's heart, and twisted.

Does what Cat become think (wrongly) that Jamie was behind the Red Wedding?

Jamie not survive his encounter with unCat.
[/SPOIL]

One of the reasons why I love the books is that they have so much hidden in them. [SPOIL]Bolton's[/SPOIL] sense of humor may end up being the end for [SPOIL]Jamie[/SPOIL].
