If you ever have a chance to travel to the Indian high country, you will likely encounter something the locals there call "charras."
Simply put, charras is like a thick molassesy substance traditionally made from the juices of cannabis sativa. It is prepared by rubbing raw buds in the palm of one's hand until one is left with a small mass resembling a hash ball. If done properly, the process takes several hours and the end product is usually less than a gram. That said, Indian charras are highly prized and very expensive.
I've never encountered them here in the states, which is to be expected since the average American potfarmer doesn't have the time or patience to prepare one!
I myself have never made one because I don't have enough crop to do it yet. One of these days, however, I would like to try it.
If this kinda stuff sparks your curiosity, here's a documentary video you might want to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqFiucWKo-8

It's not really that hard to obtain charas, no matter where you live (due to de internetz).
I think it's a waste to do it with your own crop, especially if you're growing indoors. In india the only real bottleneck is manpower - and even that comes cheap.

I hope nobody here has confused me for an online buyer/dealer. I'm a hippie/bum, not a businessman! If I wanted to buy charras, I wouldn't have bothered posting this thread in the first place.
Yes, you could totally buy cheap-ass charras online. But why? Most of the ones you get online are probably made with dried bud. True authentic Indian charras must be prepared on site the moment you pull the bud off the plant. I guess I'm mostly trying to appeal to all the hippies out there who would devote that much time to prepare a little ball of goo! To each his own, right?!

Some pictures for you guys......

Yes, I've grown a charas plant and even done a little amateur breeding with one myself.

Here's one of my own creations:

It's a Lebanese cross.

I never bothered with hand rubbing because it's quite inefficient. I much prefer tumbling or even ice extraction at a stretch.

what exactly is the difference between this and hash because they look the same. and are made the same.

Charas is a kind of hash. It does't really look like regular hash and nor is it made the same as any other hash - that's why it has its own name

I've been smoking on some hand-rubbed pakistani hash for a while that I love. Deep earthy flavor and sedating indica stone. Mix it up with some OG Kush and it's heaven. I'd love to try some from the Himilayan region.

The photos on wikipedia look like these 10g bullet shaped blocks of hash I can get, personally best hash I've had, could very well be charas instead. The way it's made explains the shape, I kept wandering how they got them that shape and why they aren't square seeing if your getting hash bulk to sell by the pound or whatever I assume whatever shape its in when you get it you cut off bits, therefore rectangular(ish) would be the most natural rather than smoothly carved out into a oblong spheriod.

if so, it's probably culero hash and not charas. google it

Here in israel they use shit as an adulterant all the time, so I wouldn't worry about it too much :P
