Fucking hell it's been busy in here today, and I seemed to have missed all the action! Luckily my mod-powers mean I can relive the day in it's full unedited glory =D

Don't know why I'm posting exactly except to say I'm watching you :sus: and once I've caught up I might post something more or less relevant ;)

fMRI actually measures the blood oxygen levels (BOLD) in the brain during chunks of time via the magnetic differences between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. Of course, not as simple as that (lots of fourier stuff blah blah). And it's a little leap from BOLD to neural activity.

Obviously we have the skills to mess with brain chemistry - all just a bit messy (as you'd notice on a friday night in any town centre). If you're interested in the magnetic aspect, check out Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation - now that is awesome. Fancy a temporary brain 'lesion'?

At the risk of sounding all smug and shitey whilst simulatneously being proved horribly wrong... I know ;)

Am one of those rather irritating "keen amateurs" who has no actual training (beyond middle school in my case 8o) but has read a lotta books and watched a lotta stuffs on sciencey stuffs that interest him. And thus knows it all - yes all - and feels the need to simplify for public consumption to save on explaining things. Deep 'n' mysterious me innit ;)

MRI seems kindasorta betwixt and between chemistry and physics then maybe - so biology. Or at least an interesting window upon. Electronics in the sense that it makes pretty pictures onna screen via computery stuffs was what I was mostly meaning. Admittedly a somewhat sloppy definition :D

And on the brain chemistry thang, ya, even I'm not quite so dense as to realise we don't "mess" with it with every breath we take, every meal we eat, every drug we pig out on. Was actually thinking more of a kinda chemical "swapsie" type scenario as being the next step up from the optical imaging from an optical system other than your own stuff. Direct downloads, as it were. At which point we are living in a William Gibson's wetdream world :D
 
Quavers are alright. Skips are fucking vile though.

Yeah, very unlikely that chemical techniques will get much beyond what we have at the moment - just a very broad adjustment to brain function (which can have major effects, of course).

I know a couple of peeps who spend their time playing with marm (ABE: marmoset) brains - a dash of oxydopamine here and there, and ta-da! Selective changes in brain function (well, usually dysfunction, lol).

Kinda. I seem to spazz the fucker's out now and then now even when I don't mean to. Aside from that one which was intentional. Usually edit 'em out cos they do me nut but sometime's just cannot be arsed. And also try to avoid editing posts when it get's into the realm of leaving editing scars below unless abslutely necessary. My standards in general have massively slipped though. Am using "imo" and "ime" fairly regularly now. Mostly cos I've gotten grief for years about "sounding authoritarian" and have given up the fight. Plus am quite lazy.

I first met their pickly goodness when I was 7/8 - it was love at first crunch. Even changing from frying to baking could not destroy my love for them :D

They do need to be soaked in tomato soup to truly reach nirvana
 
Not a lot, good lookin'. Cheap petrol station snacks mostly. Is now a good time to mention Scampi fries? You only get about 10 in a packet but god they're good. Nice n spicy Nic-Naks are good too.

I just found a front bumper for my amazing car, and its in Bristol. Result.

How are you after your negotiations with OB cornish?
