Not sure if this fits here exactly but my main goal of this post is to find out what some people who are manic depressive think of psychedelics. Do you like them, find them useful? What ones are your favorite if that is true? If not why? What experience did you have with what that made you believe that? Another question id like to know is have you been on or are you currently on any prescription meds for it?

I'll go first. In the past i have tried 2C-I and i love it to the point where i almost like it more then weed. Shrooms however, have that beat by a mile(or 1.6093km for you non-americans) and are by far my favorite. When i do either of these i feel as though im in control of my life, even though you just gotta "go with the flow" and take whatever they hand you. Every time ive done these, always relativly low dose, idk about the 2C-I but just enough to get nice visuals and body high for a good 3 or 4 hours, and never more then an eighth of the shrooms, it feels theraputic more then anything else. Now i am on 600mg of Lithium Carbonate and 5mg of Zyprexa(Olanzapine) for my occasional sleeplessness and cant take them (psychedelics) as often, but i know i will be going off of them to try LSD one day, and to experience shrooms maybe once a year just to keep life from being boring and flat. Anyone have more experience with doing this(skipping meds for a small trip) then going back on meds afterwards? I know my life feels more empty when i cant see the world through an altered perspective.
Well thats me, now its your turn! Anyone else feel they experience this same kind of thing? Maybe if we band together, one day we can get them to research into the use of certain psychedelics as medicine(probably not but we can dream!)

Hi, welcome!
I prefer the term Manic Depression over bipolar, why would you say you do? I rarely hear it.

I do like them, I find them very useful. I don't know if I'd be here without them.
LSD changed my life, particularly the first trip. I generally prefer dissociatives though. Sorry for not giving specific reasons as to why I do and don't, but I could basically write a book as to why they helped me more than harmed me.
Haven't done 2C-I, but have definitely had 100\150+ trips between Psychs\Dissos.
Wasn't the biggest fan of 25-I at all, not sure how similar that is. How is the comeup on 2C-I?
I feel you on the shrooms, I find the come up really rough and the side effects just a lot to bear. I can't do anti-psychotic, I experienced akathisia, changed who I am. I would take suicidal depression over that any day.. I would've done anything to make it stop. :(
Currently only on lamictal, barely any interactions with other drugs, was a nice thing to have.. That possible rash side effect is sometimes on the back of my mind though. I'm on the highest dose they use that they deem effective for mood stabilization.

I'm sorry life seems boring and flat. Feel free to message me!

'Goin' with the flow made me a happier person.' Not so great at it now as I was.

I found skipping drugs for trips never worked out great. Then again, I avoid anti-psychotics mostly, since they don't seem to blend well with psychedelics.

LSD was the best mood stabilizer I have ever experienced... For awhile, I don't know if this is depressing or not, but it was my drive to get a job and keep going..
If you ever need anyone to talk to, you can talk to me via PM.

Dissociatives are generally my favorites though, more and more studies are seeming to point towards the effectiveness in treating 'manic-depression\depression.' I'm not telling anyone what they should and shouldn't do though...

i am manic depressive, and have been diagnised for 15 years, i findd psychs very helpful ( shrooms, 4-aco-dmt, DMT,DET, 5-meo-dalt,mescaline) to name a few. but shrooms seem to be the best for healing and freedom from my mind. im on lithium carb. 900mg and i do quit to use, most look down on this, but if you are not manic depressive, i dont think you know what your talking about.
dissociatives are extreamly helpful, as they allow disconnection from the constant torment my mind can have.
i do keep my psych use to a minimum but my mxe and dex use is ''therapuetic as needed'' but have cut down on that as well--mxe and lithium can take a toll on the kidneys - blood work is a must!!

thankfully someone else sees this, everywhere i go people are saying well if youre on meds dont quit them youll go crazy blah blah blah... but honestly id be fine 75% of the time without them its just the other 25% of the time really really sucks without them. im going to talk to my doc and switch to lamictal i believe, because it interacts with almost nothing else and i can live with being on meds, i just need something else to "spice up my life". psychedelics also greatly help me find solutions to my problems, accept certain events in life, and just get out of my own head for a small amount of time

dxm is currently being investigated an an anti-depressant, and there is at least one report on erowid about dxm being used for this purpose

I would also like to add to this thread about ketamine's effects as well:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3000408/

tl;dr: "Ketamine has been shown to be effective in treating depression in patients with bipolar disorder who have not responded to antidepressants. In persons with major depressive disorder, it produces a rapid antidepressant effect, acting within two hours as opposed to the several weeks taken by typical antidepressants to work."

I will also say, MXE if you don't overdo it has strong anti-depressant effects for like a week. Dissociatives in low doses are seriously have the potential to be extremely beneficial imo. I would say it doesn't have surgical anesthetic properties like ketamine, as I have dosed too high.. And it definitely didn't knock me out. And I don't mean m-holing, I mean beyond, i.e. if it were ketamine it would just be a black out. Maybe others have had other experiences, but I think as of now ketamine tops the cake for mood stabilization.

Lamictal is fantastic, it's not always used as a standalone drug, but if you're like me, I am pretty scared of daily anti-psychotic usage.

If someone prescribed me daily ketamine doses of 40mg or something I wouldn't complain at all, and not even for recreational purposes, I mean purely therapeutic. Their abuse potential can be high, but come on, look at opiates, if there is strong medicinal purposes and helps a lot, chances are anything will be abused if it can be. You also don't see many problems with bladder\liver problems involving ketamine if people don't overdo it and aren't habitually high dose users.

"honestly id be fine 75% of the time without them its just the other 25% of the time really really sucks without them." - I agree.
