So i've been smoking weed for aprox. 4-5 years (starting when i was 15), not like EVERY DAY but "occasionaly" something like two or three times a week. Now it feels as if I can only use like 1/3 of my brain... It's as if my mind is "clouded" my long-term memory is weak, and when I go out I don't have like talk subjects and I feel as if im not entirely there... I know it sound kind of weird but its hard to explain. I dont feel retarded lol just not focused. 8(

I've stoped smoking weed for about 2 months now, should I be feeling something different? I've read somewhere that your short-term memory is supposed to develop since you stop smoking and you should feel the difference in like two weeks...

Maybe someone who used to smoke and then stopped can share here if he felt any different and after how long :?

Thanks and stay safe

It'll probably take about a month to fully detox your body. Do you exercise and what not?

Nootropics might be a short term solution.

yep i agree.
give it more time koisa, at least a month. healthy diet and plenty of exercise will also be of great benefit.

try not to stress too much. all the best

Of course it will go away, chill out you'll be fine!

Stick to pure or mostly pure sativas in future, they're much more clear headed in general.

The lovely thing about our brains is that they can heal over time, especally since you started when your brain was still developing. Plenty of research says that smoking (or drinking or doing any drugs really) before your body and brain has fully matured (which happens around 19-20, can be earlier for women) that its harmful effects on the brain can be...well....harsher. Here's an exert from one article on the subject:

" From a more biological perspective, however, use of cannabis during critical developmental periods in the still maturing brain may induce persistent alterations in brain structure and brain function. Therefore, the effects of frequent cannabis use during adolescence could be different from and more serious than during adulthood, an issue increasingly recognized in the field of cannabis research."

Article can be found here: Long-term consequences of adolescent cannabis exposure on the development of cognition, brain structure and function: an overview of animal and human research

But like I said, this is repairable. And the other great thing about our brain is that you really can exercise it! If your brain still feels foggy after a few weeks of not weed than you need to whip that brain back in shape. Playing memory games and other puzzle and mind games really do help your memory and cognitive functions. I am a heavy smoker and have been for some time, and when I get that weed fog going in my head I find that exercising both my body AND my brain clears the fog up best.

You're smoking too much, and too often. Take a long break. At least you are not like some people I know who have smoked daily since they were teenagers and who still smoke and who would go through an 8th of herb in an entire day.

Interesting, I've been smoking almost daily for the last 8 years and I do just fine in the engineering program im in. I feel that cloudiness when I smoke alot the night before but I'm good otherwise.

Solution to every stoner problem: smoke less!

I read a study where they let smokers smoke their own stash or something, and then measured the THC/CBD ratio of the weed they were smoking. The ones with a higher CBD/THC ratio (indicas usually), suffered much less cognitive impairment from regular smoking. Not while they were actually stoned but while they were sober. Sativas are generally clearer during the high I agree.

I'll try and find it again at some point, because I can't remember whether it seemed like a reliable study.

Very interesting, I find indicas impair me more whilst high and after high as well, where as sativas are generally weaker all around, including and residual cognitive impairment.

^ i would agree with that. i love me some sativa but it seems indicas are much more prevalent

Lots of exercise, healthy eating and maybe some vitamins and you should get back to normal soon enough :)

In a study researching the effects of Narcan (opiate blocker drug used for heroin and other opiate overdoses) a group of=D just heavy grass smokers where administered the drug and to everybody's surprise, especially the the poor heavy green subjects, the marijuana users instantly went into severe opiate withdraw. Based on the fact that opiate receptors are definitely involved in the MJ high I would expect you to see significant improvement between the fourth and fifth month as those extra opiate receptors start to turn off. Literally, as the first ones turn off it will seem as if your mind finally cleared overnight. This process will continue from about five months out through about seven and a half months out when the last of those receptors fire down. Also remember the brain is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets. There is another interesting phenomenon of memory and being high.. the old saying goes something like if you studied for the test high, you better get high before the test; so you may have to brush up or relearn tasks you performed solely when you were high. If you don't smoke at ALL you are well on your way, good luck.
