Hey Bronson, I am new to Bluelight so I'm not sure the appropriate avenues for asking the administrators questions.. if there is a better way than dropping to a a thread that is already in progress then let me know and I'll do that in the future... but here's my question:

I have been taking suboxone for the past couple months and recently relapsed. it had been between 24 and 36 hours since my last dosing of suboxone, 8 mg strip.

I keep reading and hearing that the naloxone in suboxone doesn't actually have any blockade effect as we users have been lead to believe. Apparenly the binding affinity of buprenorphine is so much stronger that the naloxone simply loses the battle?

Anyway... I took a solid 45 mg of oxycodone and the only effect I got was a little bit of dizziness and scatter-brain <-- advanced medical terms, I know. Ha. Certainly no euphoria, nodding, comfortable numbness etc. Basically none of the effects I am used to and expect when I take a large opiate dose.

So, once the bupe wears off does the Naloxone then bind to the opioid receptors and block the weaker opiate strands like oxycodone, or am I just psyching myself out? Also, if the naloxone is blocking the effects of the oxy about how long will it be before I am able to feel the regular opiate high again? I am 25, male, exercise regularly and have what I consider to be a healthy, consistent diet. I don't drink very often, and when I do it's very small amounts. I do smoke a half pack of cigarettes daily, but otherwise I am on no other medications; over-the-counter or RX.

I know the obvious answer to all of this is "Stop taking opiates you retard", but alas I am a weak man so I am in need of your expertise.

Thank you sir!

What I did was to turn this into your own thread for you. In the future, you'll want to just click the new thread button top left in the given forum you want to start a new conversation in.

Given your dose of sub (fairly high - and I'm not sure how long you've been on it for) you may just not have waited long enough. Sometimes it can take a full 48 hours or even a bit more. I don't personally take subs or even have a tolerance to opiates, so sometime soon some other posters who do should chime in with their opinions on this.

Welcome to bL by the way. :)

The buprenorphine in Suboxone is responsible for the blockade of other opioids. It can take a very long time to wear off, even if you don't really feel effects from it anymore. It's not that the naloxone starts working when the buprenorphine wears off, it is much shorter-acting than bupe (and when taken in low oral/sublingual doses it is supposed to not have very much effect on receptors outside the gastrointestinal system anyway). Bupe could also have raised your tolerance if you've been taking it regularly.

Good post swimming and Lou louu XIV

if you take over 2-4mgs, the suboxone isn't stronger, but rather it just hangs around in your system for longer. For low doses. I found the half life of bupre to be more around 8-12hrs, but at 8mg and above, the Half-Life is 36+hrs

I have been on suboxone for 7 or 8 months and I take 0.5-2mg a day and I can get high from a full agonist in 12-16 hrs.

Yup, the bupe is what is causing you to feel no effects from the oxy as it is a partial opiate receptor blocker as well as an antagonist. The naloxone as you said is doing nothing:

Thank you all for the responses - awesome information. I didn't realize that Bupe had such a strong binding affinity relative to other opiates. That makes sense though. I have heard the rumors that Naloxone is simply an expensive additive that boosts the price of the alternative Subutex that doesn't have the Naloxone in it. The confusion came when the doctor offered me a Naloxone injection that would supposedly act as a blockade for approximately a month. It made me question how it would be possible for the Naloxone to have such a null effect, but with the strength of Bupe the whole equation makes more sense.

I can't help but question why more doctors don't just prescribe the Bupe for extreme pain as opposed to Oxycodone, Oxymorphone etc... Probably doesn't sell as well. haha! Let's be honest.

Again thank you guys, definitely like knowing what's going on when I put chemicals in my body. Regardless of what anyone says, Suboxone has essentially saved my life. Whether it's placebo, trading an addiction for a dependency or whatever it may be, it has worked for me. Anyone who stumbles across this thread should know that it effectively released me from a 2-year+ Oxy addiction that reached over 300 mg's a day for the last 6 months.

Look forward to learning more from all of you guys, impressive knowledge base in the Bluelight world.

Also.. Is there a specific term for something like Bupe that acts as a blocker and an antagonist, or is it simply a strong antagonist that has such a high binding affinity that it just doesn't allow other weaker antagonists to latch on to the same receptors? I've heard terms like "reverse agonist" etc. I'm relatively new to all of this so trying to get as well-versed as possible. More curiosity than anything!

Thanks again guys.

8mg subutex daily for months, trying to get high on 45mg oxy <--- here is your problem. Your tolerance is way above it. Also if you are like me you need at least 72+ hours off (probably more considering how long you have been on the subs). It's all just a waste of time and money in my oppinion. At least I can safely say you will never get high from 45mg oxy, that dose is nothing compared to 8mg bupe.

there is no naloxone injection that lasts a month. you're thinking of a naltrexone depot shot sold under the brand name vivitrol. lasts approximately a month. usually injected into one of the glutes.
