Legalization of Marijuana (Liberal Party of Canada)

Not very clear on the prospects of the Liberal Party in Canada. Do they have a decent chance of gaining control?

They have a legitimate chance due to Justin Trudeau's cult of personality. He is the son of Pierre Trudeau, the most popular prime minister in Canadian history. Polls are showing a Conservative minority as the most likely outcome at the moment, however.

The Liberals have been in power more often than any other party, but they took a serious dive recently.

The Liberal party is one of the two parties in the de-facto Canadian two-party system.
Conservative party is the equivalent of the US Republicans. (right)
Liberal party is the equivalent of US Democrats. (centre-left)

The 3rd place runner up is almost always the New Democratic party. They're much further left. There's also the Green, Marxist-Leninist, Communist, Bloc Pot, etc parties.
Generally vote-splitting (fuck FPTP) means the Conservatives will win unless the Liberals manage to capturethe audience of all the other left-wing parties.

A lot of people go for the "ABC" voting method, Anything But Conservative, because they're a bunch of lying cheating ratfuckers with a robotic Bush 2.0 at the helm. The remainder of the Canadian political parties are usually pretty undivided on the marijuana issue. It's just Harper and his cronies that are keeping it illegal and increasding mandatory minimums.

Only thing harper and the cronies did right was revamp some gun laws, but that was just to get those guys on their side and it worked.I see tons of mindless puppets on the most popular canadian gun forum pledging their loyalty to those useless fucks, and throwing money at them :(

Gun nuts, old people, racists, and crony capitalists tend to favour the Conservatives no matter what they do, unfortunately.

That's not necessarily true. Layton was originally supportive of legalization but then turned against it when the NDP gained more support, and in Mulcair's most recent statement on the issue he said that he is against even decriminalization:

No. I think that that would be a mistake because the information we have right now is that the marijuana that’s on the market is extremely potent and can actually cause mental illness.

There seems to be a big misconception in Canada that the NDP is a marijuana-friendly party, but they haven't been since the early 2000s.

well we've been under the conservatives for a long ass time now and Canada is doing relatively well in terms of capitalism, those tar sands are in full swing and people are making shit loads of money off that. Since Harper is an oil tycoon a lot of votes are going to go conservative just for that fact. I wouldn't want the liberals going all environmental and shutting that shit down or putting strict regulations on it as it's a fucking huge source of income in Canada.

Other than that, our laws are stupid and way behind the times and we need to take a new direction (for example the min. mandatory penalties on cannabis). Maybe people seeing 2 states in the US legalize will give them incentive to vote liberal. The liberal party has been fucked for years now but if they can get their shit together i think they have a shot. I think people should really consider the situation of the liberal votes being split between the NDP and the liberals, if that happens we'll end up with the same bullshit again, conservative minority. The NDP has fucked up enough that i hope people will just vote liberal this time around.

i'll have to get my ass out to vote for this one.
