Teens trying new, dangerous drug called ‘Molly’

Molly’ — a new drug containing meth that teenagers are getting hooked up with at parties

A tiny little pill has started to surface at high school parties throughout the U.S., posing a huge threat to teens who can easily pop the pill without much thought.

The pill known at party scenes as “Molly” (also known as the compressed powder form of MDMA) is being billed as a completely pure drug, leading young people to believe that it doesn’t cause harm or contain harmful chemicals. The pill is really a mixture of several illegal substances, with its main ingredient being methamphetamine.

The pill has been widely sung about in rap songs, with U.S. emergency rooms seeing a 5-fold increase in the number of emergency visits resulting from the drug since 2004.

A college student told FOX 29 that he and his peers typically take it by dropping it in to a water bottle.

Police are now warning parents that the pill can cause brain damage and even lead to organ failure. Short term use of the drug can cause the body to overheat and drinking alcohol can further increase the risk of dehydration. FOX 29 also reports that the drug is hugely popular among mainstream kids in the suburbs with its ease of distribution.

Teens are even taking to online forums to convince their peers that it’s non habit forming and describing the experience from Molly as “euphoric”.

Was this whole 'article' supposed to be about 'ecstasy' and not molly? Maybe it's different in the US or where ever this shit is from, but here in Aus, molly is not pills at all, only crystal or powder MDMA. And nothing to do with Meth.

I think the writer is trying to say: guess what parents: your kids are actually taking methamphetamines! Game over. Go make new offspring.

Please let this be a joke... Molly - "Crazy new drug, EPIDEMIC"

- is told to contain pure MDMA,,

o really? so its MDMA?

I love how the media portray teens as ignorant idiots who take drugs without question because they "think" its safe. When I was a kid I was very vigilant about which drugs I put in my body.

^Educated drug users are a minority I think. Especially among teens. Before Bluelight, I used to IV Xanax pills, or eat dozens of Vicodins at a time.

^much agreed. before bluelight and in my teenage years i'd swallow handfuls of co-codamol and benzos washed down with alcohol as i saw absolutely no problem in doing so. i'd also like to mix tramadol with alcohol as well, again, wonderful. if it hadn't of been for bluelight i'd probably be dead right now.

The ignorance of society is alarming. When it's the news media, it's ten-fold. Always have to wonder about these stories though; are they truly ignorant or is it sensationalism. In any case, it's irresponsible.

please tell me this is a joke -- or not from this century or maybe a 3rd world country ?? nope even a 3rd world country would handle the power of words better than the USA media !

Amen!

I'm 26 and now know some educated drug users but when I was in highschool I was like the guru to my friends thanks to what I'd read on Bluelight and Erowid.
Some teens just want to get high and will believe whatever they're told by their peers. I remember during my junior year there were a bunch of kids raving about the "dopamine" that was going around....WTF!?!? No idea what it was but I never touched it.

During our drug unit in Health class I showed a bunch of people Erowid to help with their research....a week later it was blocked on school computers. I think, especially among teens, non biased info should be easily accessed.

This article though is ridiculous...I try to keep from posting much related to drugs on Facebook because I'm friends with coworkers and some cousins of mine who are MUCH younger but this article went right up with a huge rant. Absolute BS!

same for me in health class lol i did a presentation on DXM and quoted trip reports from erowid. I remember my teacher looking over my shoulder reading one report about how a guy on a high dose of dxm and his roommate were thinking about eating a dead rat because it was a cliche hahaha. no wonder i ended up loving dxm.

as for this article, they should ban molly. Those kids would be lucky to get methamphetamine in their pills rather than some weird mix of dxm, caffeine and 5-meo-dalt or whatever other weird concoctions are out there.

Dangerous drug worries Dallas police

In North Texas and across the country there is a dangerous designer drug. It's not really new, but it's gaining popularity and is being laced through the lyrics of hip-hop music.

When Jay-Z and other rappers reference Molly in their music they mean more than the girl next door.

"It's a very dangerous drug that I'm afraid people can die of and have died in the past," said Dr. Stephen Garrison from Caron Treatment Centers.

The street name for the drug is Molly. It has a long chemical name that's usually shortened to MDMA. Sometimes it's snorted or taken in capsule form. Other times the powder is wrapped in tissue and swallowed.

Users claim it makes them excited and amplifies whatever they are experiencing. Experts said it works by releasing adrenaline-type medicine that affects the body like taking an amphetamine.

"It's marketed because they want these children to use it. They want them to buy it. They make it seem cool. It's not as dangerous as meth, but it's the exact same drug," said Sgt. Danny, a Dallas police narcotics officer.

Narcotics officers said it is popular in the rave scene. Dallas police have shut down clubs where they said it was prevalent and a man died of an overdose of Molly at a rave party in Fair Park two years ago.

They said at dance parties it is not uncommon to see people in clothes or glasses asking, "Have you seen Molly?"

"Basically a way to communicate to the drug dealer or the user that they are interested in purchasing or selling MDMA," Sgt. Danny said.

The officers said Molly is not just being talked about in music.

"The same kids that are at the clubs taking it, they are talking about it on Facebook," said Detective Mike, a Dallas police narcotics officer.

They said some of the girls they see taking the drug are as young as 15.

"Sometimes the clubs shut down at 4 o'clock in the morning and then they'll go to the after party until 6, 7, 8 o'clock in the morning and I don't know what these girls are telling their parents. Maybe that they are at a friend's house or whatever," Detective Mike said.

Dallas police have been out everywhere they think the drug is looking for it.

But have they tried wearing clothes or glasses? It's how the kids at the dance parties find it I hear.

Fair enough. All the more reason to educate kids, rather then trying to "scare" them off drugs.
