2012 - 2013 Football Thread

Really hanging on here now.
2nd half shows why Lampard isnt deserving for another contract , especially at the wages he is asking for.

His legs go after 50 mins and he has done squat in this 2nd half, but its Rafa's fault for not subbing him, probably some misplaced loyalty.

2-1, welcome the points but tale of 2 halves, neither team showed up in one of their halves.

Absolute bargain. Eva Carneiro is fucking mint.

Off to the pub. COYS.

Speaking of cheap players, seems Galataserey just paid the same amount for Wesley Sneijder.
Supposed to be on big wages, not nothing more than what a 34 year old Frank Lampard is demanding at Chelsea.
But when you can get a 20 year old Oscar for 45K a week and Wes is looking for 5 times that wage it says a lot about this mercenary

Surprised nobody from the Prem came in for him, never really hit the heights after the Treble win with Jose, but on his day (which was more often than not at Ajax and not Real or Inter) you could tell he was one of the genuine 2 foooted players in the world.

West Ham United f.c

Are fun to support & i love it.
I love the fact that we can take the piss out of ourselves , we have produced many of the finest players this country has ever had , our fans are vocal & generally respected , you see the Irons Badge all over the world & we have THIS as our Club Anthem

None of the Other London clubs has as much character as The Irons.

Have always had a soft spot for the Irons. Proper footy club. Working class culture runs right through it...fans are passionate, knowledgeable and humorous (have to be i guess heheh), and the team have always had a strong footballing ethic.

Have been to Upton Park twice, many moons ago now. Atmospheric, old fashioned ground - just as I like 'em.

Was at a Rancid gig a few weeks ago and Tim dissed West Ham ;). He was praising their support band, and he got to the drummer: "and Millwall Steve, fucking brilliant drummer. He's not West Ham Steve, he's Millwall Steve, that's why he's great" [something like that anyway...] :D

Love of my team....well I support Man Utd and not being from Manchester I'm really part of the problem....I'll say I'll love the hardcore fans with their incredible range of songs, the sense of history, that people are singing about things that happened in 1958, and will still be singing about it when everyone who was alive in 1958 is dead.

My hometown team - the Wellington Phoenix. I hate the fact that we're a franchise, but the whole A-League is a franchise, so there's not much we can do about that. I love that we got our position in the league when Auckland lost their spot, because they had no fans, their team was awful and they were appallingly run. And then Wellington gets more fans at our games even with 1/3 of the population or less. I love that we used to sing "we're not Auckland anymore" and that at every single game we can sing "same old Aussies, always cheating".

I love the sensation of falling in love with a player, or deciding you hate them. Of Daniel (our Brazilian winger) deciding he wants to become a Kiwi. Of watching him pump the crowd up when he takes a corner. I love booing Marco Rojas when he plays for New Zealand, because of the way he left us (he got into the team because the supporters paid for a scholarship, then left after he did well). Or the pride when a local guy like Barbarosos comes through. I love never knowing whether we're going to be top of the league, or bottom. Watching an away end that has literally 4 people in it. Looking across the stadium at empty stands, because they put everyone on one side so it looks better on TV. Getting bigger crowds for a league game than the rugby team got for a quarter-final the same weekend. Our self-depreciating chants ("we've got the wind and the rain and the Phoenix, oh Wellington is wonderful") or our tuneless ones ("Stand up for the Phoe-nix" never scans properly). The fact that our original owner was (allegedly) a drug baron. Knowing that the bastard A-League could take the franchise away at any moment....

Come on lets hear it ?

It's a simple question & should arouse a bit of passion .

Despite protestations that my team is a plastic club, it couldnt be further from the truth
I know guys who have gone (this season) to Donetsk, Copenhaghen, Tokyo and New York ( preseason) so far this year
Chelsea always have one of the best away support in the league
Wont mention the bad old days, but we also have a firm that can hold its own :)

I fell in love with them simply because they used to train in Harlington and as a kid I lived in Denham which isnt that far from the training ground
Hence I was always able to go to the ground as a 9 year old and get autographns from the players.

We are still proud holders of an 82,000 attendance at a home game which is if I recall the 4th highest in the country all time.
We beat Real Madrid in the Cup Winners Cup albeit a couple of years before I was born.

Not to mention most of the coolest people around are/were Chelsea Fans :)

Steve Mcqueen
Micheal Caine
Suggs & Woody (Madness)
Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode)
Paul Hardcastle
Gabriel Byrne
Phil Daniels
Simon Pegg
Owen Wilson
John Major
Alan Green
Jimmy White
Alec Stewart
Damon Albarn & Alex James (Blur)
Jonny Lee Miller
Gary Numan
Paul Cook & Steve Jones ( Sex Pistols)
Joseph Fiennes
Billy Idol
Jimmy Page
Phil Collins

Just off the top of my head ...Probably a bunch more That you can look up as well

Enough of a rollcall of fans to forget about David Mellor , Seb Coe, and Paul Oakenfold and Seb Fontaine :)

Edit not to mention despite our (false) reputation as a racist club we were one of the first to have black players as in likes of Paul Canoville and later on Paul Elliot, and when the Premiership got some money we were the first o embrace overseas players like Erland Johnson and Mark Stein and later Gullit and Zola

And in the same timeframe the real racist clubs like Everton were the last to field black players

Villa need two goals in 20 minutes or Bradford are in the Cup final :)

And TLM, sorry, but nothing can clean away the stain of having Mellor support your club, nothing ;)

People should be grateful for Abramovich as well , if not for him Southampton would have gone broke without the £ 7 million they got for Bridge.

And the £24 Million and £17 million we gave to Man City and Blackburn > for SWP and Duffer? Both clubs would be broke otherwise.
Not to mention the money we pump into West Ham Brimz ! lol Glen Johnson, Lampard etc

Compare it to Man City who never spent a single penny on English Talent till they bought Rodwell.

Hate Roman all you want, but a lot of his money has actually kept a lot of teams in england afloat. The £50 Mill alone probably meant the Bin Dippers didnt go to the wall and they could afford Suarez

The Money he gave to pompey for Tal Ben Haim and Smertin loans to them probably saved them
No way they could have afforded them otherwise

See guys, Chelsea is a very generous club :_

Well I got a ticket for Sunday at Brentford
Standing of course, but what do you expect, given that 3rd world ground Griffin Park

I will be there supporting my team

Edit- Re Sturridge , there is no doubt he is a good player, just very selfish and wont pass for toffee.
Selling him for 12 and getting Demba Ba for 7.5 was a cracking bit of business Imho

Yep, especially when they come to our park and start hissing and giving nazi salutes.. I always think `Wow what a classy bunch, I wish more teams had fans like this!´

I knew there was something missing from that list.

i went out in a villa top today, local radio was far too negative last night...fair play to bradford. what happens in the villa changing rooma at half time? that's what i want to know/

For the most part I find MOST West Ham fans to be pretty decent, good laugh and good banter.
If they take a couple of points off Le Arse tonight, thats good enough for me

Come on Chelsea BTW !

At least El Gordo had the nuts to play the trio again tonight
