Opioids possible to overdose from H/oxy while on MMT?

Hey all,

I'm on MMT, 140mg/day---an effective blocking dose for me IME.

If I did heroin or oxy now I prob wouldn't feel it b/c of the methadone, but could this combo still cuse an overdose EVEN if I don't feel any of the effects from the Heroin or oxy?

My thinking is, that if I'm not getting high from the drugs then I can't have the side effects of the drug either--i.e. respitory depression....

Then again,I wonder if just because I don't feel the euphoria from the H/oxy, it doesn't mean that the drug isn't binding to my receptors at all...

So, if I'm on a blocking dose of MMT, and then do some H/oxy, a decent amount in an attempt to get high, but don't feel the euphoria due to the methadone in my system, am I at risk for OD, or would I need to feel the effects of the drugs--nodding, grogginess, slurred speach, heaviness, etc...before my chance of OD waas increased due to the H/oxy?

This is absolutley WRONG (no offense), and this line of thinking could kill you. You do not have to be feeling the effects of an opiate for respiratory depression to be taking place... so yes, you can very much OD while on high doses of methadone.

Is this question for pure speculation or are you actually considering using while on 140mg's of methadone? The blockade effect will make it completely pointless anyway and like I said, you can absolutely still overdose. That is why the doctors warn about the dangers of trying to "break through" the blockade from methadone or suboxone. The user wont feel the effects of the drug but can still OD.

Yeah, how about you just don't do any oxycodone or heroin since at 140mg there's not a chance in hell that you will even feel it.

Just focus on your sobriety and happiness, this kind of thinking is just taking a step backward.

Seems theres a good number of similar threads tonight, must be because its a saturday!lol OD is a real risk when on that much methadone and perhaps more likely because you wont feel the effects and so will prob redose. The rest will be history....literally. Much safer OP would be to just smoke some weed and relax that way, no risk and maximum return. Perfect!

Nah I have no plans to use at all, but appreciate the wise words given. It was really more a question I had been wondering about *should* I ever want to use again, but atm I have no plans to do so, just FYI.

I had had to use in paast wen away and w/out methadone and wonldnt get high the first day and so I waould think about this being an issue, where even if not high I may still have high levels of opiates in body to cause an od....

You can absolutely overdose from other full agonists or other CNS depressants in general, alcohol, benzodiazepines, even the right dose of methadone can kill you dead.

I have no idea who said you can't overdose while on MMT, they are obviously suffering from from addiction induced delusion or they are simply uneducated and are spreading untrue rumors, at the expense of lives.

Don't do it. When I was on a low dose under 40 I really felt off. I think using on methadone is bad.

Glad it was just a hypothetical, ive known a few people that have made the mistake of thinking that because they wait 24hrs or so that they can safely get high. Not realizing of course that methadone has a halflife of up to 60hrs, your high dose would take the best part of a week to leave your body and any cns depressants within that timeframe could be lethal. Im glad your able to have a toke because that defo helps when fighting cravings.lol
Try and get a nice strong Indica type strain and that will give you a nice mellow nodding type of high. Not as good as opiates I know but better then an OD for sure!

I can count on the fingers of my hand examples of extraordinary, life-saving molecules discovered at Merk and Pfizer, which were discarded and never produced solely based on the fact that they had a half-life > 60 hours. People neglect how important this criteria is. You can't have any sort of filth flowing through you for such long periods of time. You want to use it when you need it and then you want it out! 60 hours half life is a terrible medication, I would never use it. It's actually more terrible then a 10 minutes half life, at least with 10 minutes you know where you stand.

So it's basically intensity vs. duration. I like to look at a man's life as a flow of electric current through a wire. It has 3 components mainly:

- Density in Amperes (duration of life)
- Potential in Volts (intensity of experiences)
- Heat Loss (having to go to work)

It all makes sense, if you have to work your ass off at MacDonalds, it's like current flowing through a poor conductor, you lose much of the 2 others. But once the current flows, you can manage the 2 and that's when it gets interesting. In a hydroelectric station the ratio of voltage vs density is carefully calculated to yield the biggest Watt power!

Choosing to live an intense heroin binge year and then die, is not worth it compared to living a normal happy life. Unfortunatly, 50% of humans on this Earth live a life that, when summed up, isn't even worth a single heroin high.
