Top film. Gus van Sant's best, and Matt Dillons. Burroughs playing himself just makes it, could watch him drawl on for hours. Very trippy in places, sent a housemate once into a real bad one on red microdots, but he was a scottish student lightweight couldn't handle his drugs so who cares what he made of it? ;) I tried to find a download ages ago, could I fuck find a working one.

It's polished up and smoothed out the rough edges of a complex man compared to the book but still shows Schindler to be a tarnished individual, and with the odd exception like the girl in the red coat telegraphing what he obviously feels should be your emotional response I think he's done a good job of letting the drama of the situation speak for itself without going overboard on the sentimentality. The truth of the brutality on show doesn't need sentimentalising and I think he largely avoided that. I weep at parts because it would be difficult not to knowing the reality, not because Spielberg has seen fit to yank my chain all that much.

Knock, it's a top film. One of Spielberg's best, no matter what anyone thinks of him as a director. Must see.

Yeah I've seen a few episodes, well, all of them, it is very good indeed. Didn't know that was a Spielberg effort either.

I will definitely watch Schindlers, it's in my queue right now.

got the boxset on the cheap in hmv.
seen it a few years ago on the box very good stuff but i love war films etc not for everyone

Even if you hate Spielberg, that is one film you've got to watch ;)

It's made me think about George Lucas - If yer not a Star Wars fan then one film of his you've got to watch is THX 1138 - It's definitely up there with 1984 and Blade Runner in my eyes :)

Yea I watched that again for the first time in years the other week. Tis a top film! And the special guest appearance of Burroughs was a lovely surprise when I first caught it. He plays the character so well that, when you think of the novel, there's not really anybody else who could play that person in the film version at all :)

I watched Contact for shits n giggles the otter (small mammal) day and I still really love it from back in mi yoof %)
 
Watched most of Band of Brothers first time round. Been meaning to download that again lately, ta for the reminder. As near accurate a reflection of the historical record as mass entertainment purposes allow I guess if you read up on Easy Company. Top telly.
 
THX 1138 is a classic, Monsta. Not watched that in donkey's years though. Think there was a remake but can't imagine it being anything short of horrid really.

Also watched Contact recently. Somewhat bizarrely I'd never heard of it until quite recently. Came out during me scag years when I stopped noticing what films were about. Good film but did find the ending a tad trite. Another book I'd like to read too.

I might give in to peer pressure at some point and watch Schindler's List as I've long suspected I may be cutting nose to spite face avoiding it purely on Spielberg grounds. Perhaps.

My Own Private Idaho Shambles. Started watching it a couple of times but never grabbed me oddly enough. Probably doing it a disservice but never high on my list.

Monsta THX1138 is something I've put on to watch a good few times but never watched through. Probably not seen enough and no doubt missed something that would have grabbed me. Might just get round to it.
 
That's the feller, Sepher. Wasn't really sure if I'd enjoy it but watched it on the basis of it being a van Sant film. Very pleasantly surprised by it.

THX 1138 is definitely a bit niche. Hardly a pulse-pounding sci-fi - more of a cerebral bent. Not watched it in at least 20 years though so may be doing it a disservice saying that.

In other "can't believe I've never watched before" sci-fi news, I watched the Riddick trilogy recently too. No idea why I missed 'em at the time but probably summat to do with Vin Diesel. Another very pleasant surprise. Loved 'em.

For a lifelong film buff I don't half manage to miss some rather obvious stuff sometimes.
 
I really liked Pitch Black but not keen on the rest of the Riddick stuff. I think it got overambitious with the storyline. Pitch Black is stylish and focussed but the sequels just seem to ask too much of me, and they're not as stylish.
 
Just watched Judge Dredd & got to say I was disappointed with it.
It must be the third or 4th film I've seen that is set in a high rise block that is run by a gang or gangs,albeit each film was from different countries.
I guess the budget was limited as it was pretty much all based in one building and was 90mins of people shooting or getting shot.
Must admit the slow-mo bits looked good but I was left disappointed but it wasn't as crap as the one with Sly Stallone in it.
 
^ Agreed, it did resemble a film from the far East that came highly recommended but I thought was dross, forget the name probably Terror Block or something. Imagine crashing into the ground in slow motion and your bones cracking and stuff, pretty nasty.

Just watched Life of Pi and really enjoyed it, never read the book so I found it quite refreshing. Great stuff.

I LOVED life of Pi ... eh. still thinking about it even a week later

Delicatessen is ace! the squeaky bed scene is a classic <3

Depending on who signed it that is certainly an object of envy :)

Can see why you might struggle to find folk who appreciate the film though. Very much a cult film rather than a mass-market one.

Am sure I had a coupla signed videos I won in some competition (never won owt then won the competition in a film magazine I read as a kid two months running :D). One was Terminator 2 t'other was Stepfather III (you mean you haven't heard of that one?!? Nor had I =D). Can't remember which one was signed though. Or actually if either of 'em were for sure. Who says drugs bugger the memory? 8)

I do have a signed Shaun Hutson novel I got for 50p off the market. Didn't know it was signed, mind. Must be worth almost a quid with the signature :D
 
I used to read Shaun Hutson books years ago cos he was really into his metal bands and horror.
I remember when they made his book 'Slugs' into a film, not very good film from what I remember.
