In vaguely related news, I (and other passing visitors) got called a "pom" last night after some rather drunken ED postings. Was quite sweet. Thought that was one of those words that probably doesn't really get used outside of Crocodile Dundee movies :D
 
Oh, we got words for you lot, don't worry about that ;).

Can't think the last time I called someone a Pom though, even back home. Would probably just use 'Brit' if I was being informal.

Confession: Was actually just a somewhat belaboured set-up so I could use my one and only antipodean-specific wordplay/pun type thing on you (although I bet I got it from summat you posted 8))

Graffitti on an Australian wall: New Zealand 6, Australia 7. Bet I got that the wrong way round but is as good as I can muster 8)
 
I had to Google that. Figured it was a pun on the NZ pronunciation of "six", which sounds like "sux" to Australians (whereas their pronunciation sounds like "sex" to us).

Google confirms it's meant to read, "New Zealand sucks, Australia's heaven".

[Related, from back in the day: "Kiwis can't pronounce their Es"'. "But they sure as hell can swallow them".]
 
Guess I didn't get it from you then. Never promised it was gonna be funny but is the only hemispherically-specific gag-type thing I know. Am amazed I got it the right way round - had to say it too meself a few times whilst thinking of dialogue from early Peter Jackson movies.

Can't quite place how a New Zealand "E" would sound but believe I can confirm they know what to do with one when they come across it ;)
 
Can anyone help my mate out? His internet is fucked up somehow. He's shouting he keeps getting the message "change your browser settings to accept cookies" whenever he tries to login to anything (Google, eBay etc) on Chrome but the settings are already set to accept cookies. He's tried installing Firefox but is getting the same problem.
 
Is his clock showing the right time? i had that problem when my motherboard battery was dying, cookie issues, all sorts of shit. had to manually change my clock every time

If two different browsers are showing the same problem my first thought is maybe he's going through a proxy that's removing the cookies. Which would be a strange thing to happen if he's using his home internet connection, unless his computer's got infected with something.

edit: Dan's idea sounds far more likely!
 
If it is his motherboard that's going...He probably needs a new computer.
 
Got a similar(ish) message trying to play summat on Soundcloud earlier - kept saying I needed to turn Javascript on although it is on and working fine elsewhere. Pretty sure in my case me lappy is on the way out though cos having all kindsa weird and worrisome shit occur of late :\
 
no...goto add remove programs
uninstall BOTH browsers complety.
restart computer.
install just ONE browser
check settings
also check his firewall or virus software aint playing up if he changed the setting higher it might block all cookies.

run adaware and spyware
clear all caches everything.
rinse and repeat
replacing battery on the motherboard would be cheap and easy to do urself if you know what ur looking at.if not get someone who does.

put this on facebook earlier, looked through twitter the other day n saw people with 50k tweets n a thousand followers and a thousand follows n whatever the fuck it is, it always springs into my mind, "Twitter, i can see the intrigue with seeing what certain celebs etc are up to but the effort and amount of time people waste their lives tweeting endless shit all day every day to gain loads of followers to feel all popular, random people who dont know you, dont give a shit about you, i kinda feel sorry for kids growing up in all this crazy social networking shit, i can imagine kids growing up with parents who are addicted to stuff like facebook and twitter, technology dominated times, very useful but weird as well. showing my age, 90s kid reflecting" anyone else feel like this? ok im guilty of it cos im posting on facebook, but i know most of the people on there, but theres people that tweet shit from awaking till sleeping, it strikes me as kinda batshit crazy
 
In vaguely related news, watched Don't Blame Facebook earlier. One of those rather flimsy C4 "documentaries" about people fucking up on social network sites. Coupla quite amusing tales therein. Probably nowt new if you read newspapers though. I don't so was all new to me. And I still blame Facebook. Just not for any of that stuff. Mainly just for existing in the form it does really.
 
Twitter can be good, depending on who you are and what you're into. Like I follow loads of librarians on Twitter, some of them post interesting news and stuff about the profession, and it could potentially be good for jobs and stuff. And on my other account I follow people I know from festivals, and I've met people through them on Twitter and IRL, and now quite a few of us chat music, and sometimes meet up at gigs. It can be great.

I have 8 'followers' on Twitter. I have no fucking clue why these random 8 cunts are following me. I occasionally hurl a bit of abuse at a celebrity, trying to get a rise out them, but other than that I just use Twitter for reading stuff. It's good for finding out about club nights, or getting rapid info on current news before it hits actual news sites.
 
I've moved a few fishing related posts to a fishing thread.

I'm sure there was another more recent fishing thread, If I find it, I'll merge the pair of them!
