Report: Armstrong to admit doping

Lance Armstrong collected the "Thrift Drug Triple Crown of Cycling": the Thrift Drug Classic in Pittsburgh, the K-Mart West Virginia Classic, and the CoreStates USPRO national championship in Philadelphia. (source)

So, it is okay to compete in the Thrift Drug Classic, but not to take his own drugs. :\

And he does sound like a real douche, Capt'n.
It sounds like it would be terrible to be him.
I don't think I can imagine what suffering he, himself, must endure to go through life as a scumfuck.

Lance Armstrong is a winner. Half the people in this forum do drugs so I don't see how you can point your moral finger. Unless of course one of you is Mother Cabrini.

^ Did you read the article I posted in #19 above?
Did you know that he sued everyone who claimed that he was doping, and forced Trek to drop Greg Lemond from their payroll because he was saying things that made Lance scared?
I used to really respect Lance Armstrong, and I don't really care much about the doping, to be honest, but lying and attacking his ex-friends, wielding power like a little Hitler, seem pretty shitty to me.

Performance enhancing drugs and other ways of improving human abilities never bothered me at all. It's just how it is. As soon as we figured it could be done and how to do it, the cat's been out the bag. Since modern medicine has made human evolution mostly useless we are the only thing left to improve our species. And personally I don't see why not. Yes, some of the things they (and other sportsmen do + lets face it pro sports aren't safe to begin with) are dangerous. But I think of them more like willing subjects for experiments on improving our bodies. Yes, some will have problems, maybe even die, but it's their own choice and judging by the rewards for the winners, they are perfectly fine risking it. And slowly the advances go back to most of us (think how just about anyone can do a few steroid cycles and look good on a beach, and steroids are just the tip of the iceberg, soon there will be other drugs that will improve various aspects of our body (can't get a tan? here's some mt2)...)

Now that being said what does bother me is the lie fabricated by sponsors and media about pro sports. How it's all in the training, how anyone can do it, blah blah blah
This is for me the worst part of it all. Just admit straight up what the facts are (you need good genes, hard work, good trainers, the right drugs, ..) if you want to be a world class athlete. If you want to take the chance go ahead. There are risks (both from the drugs and the amount of training), but it's up to you to decide.

Also, lol at armchair generals saying they could get the same results if only they had access to doping. And I could be a fighter ace if I had a hangar of the worlds best fighters.

Most people dont even know what it takes to be a world champion. To have a lifelong passion and dedication to something. To put in 10,000+ hours of hardwork and training every single day since childhood.

Yeah I agree with this, I feel pretty much the same about him and this whole thing.

I wish I had 10,000 hours a day to spend on my projects! I would master 2-3 languages or instruments every day.
Who cares about being a world champion when you could speak hundreds of languages and play hundreds of musical instruments - in just the first year? The second year, I would get four or five dozen PhDs in sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
Then, I would begin to work hard.

Sports Illustrated interviewing Greg LeMond's wife, Kathy.

SI: So Armstrong threatened you and Greg in 2001, when Greg spoke out and said he thought Lance was doping.

LeMond: That call is embedded in my and Greg's heads. It was a life-changing thing and we knew it at the time.

SI: What was it like?

LeMond: Terrified. Terrified. I don't know if you've talked to other people who have gotten that call. But [Armstrong] is crazy angry. He is screaming. He gets out of control. I mean, he threatens in a way ... he said to Greg that he would find 10 guys to come out and say that Greg had used EPO to win in his career. He was convinced that Greg could never have won clean. He was like, 'come on, you used EPO, everyone used EPO.' Greg said, 'I did not use EPO!' And he said he'd find 10 guys to say Greg did.

SI: You and others have said Armstrong and associates aggressively pursued information about Armstrong's detractors.

LeMond: Today I tweeted out [columnist] George Vecsey's quote where Lance said to him that 'I can get into your emails, I can get into your phones, I know what you're doing at all times.' He's had us followed.

I have mixed emotions about all this hysteria. I've never been into competitive sports, but have had some amazing experiences hiking in the mountains of Colorado and the Nepal Himalaya. I wonder how much higher and what more I could have seen if I was all hopped up on Artificial testosterone and EPO's. If I ever get to the Andes, I'm hoping I can chew some coca leaves to give me that little extra something something!

Armstrong's vicious attacks on fellow athletes are something he'll have to answer for. As they say, when you point the accusing finger- Three other fingers point back at you!

I find it funny that people only now seem to realize what an intolerable ass Armstrong was. This whole mythical fog he's been enshrouded in is clearing now and people see who he really is now. Regardless of his personality, not many if any people could come back from cancer and win the Tour de France 7 times times consecutively even if they were legally allowed all the performance enhancing drugs in the world. The next thing should people should realize is everyone is doing it. Cap H is right they should separate the non dopers from the dopers, then if one of the nondopers is found to be doping they can receive all the hate the entire world can muster. At least it would be fair then.

Sometimes you have to be to make it in this world. How many millionaires and billionaires have made it because they stepped over people, ripped people off, intimidated, cheated. Its survival of the fittest out there. And if life has no meaning, like so many scientists tell us, I dont see any reason why you cant drug your way to the top.

I'm not opposed to doping in any way. What I can't understand is the adulation before this or the disproportionate hate now. He deserves neither of those 2 extremes. Somebody can do all those things to become successful but they won't be my friend. I don't need life to have meaning to have a code of decent behavior. I just don't see why athletes are thought of as highly as they are. They're still human so we should judge them like we would anybody else.

I hope he is forced to pay back all the millions he got from suing people who accused him of cheating in the past.
Lance isn't sorry he is just sorry he has been found out.

Sorry that he and every other Tour de France competitor is on dope. 20 of the 21 finalists from the Tour de France 1999 to 2005 have been implicated in doping.
