Doctors not prescribing anxiety medications

Yeah, doctors being reluctant to prescribe benzos, especially for long-term use for chronic anxiety is not because they are jerks who don't want to give you the medication you feel you need, it's because they don't want you to get addicted and physically dependent and because benzos do not have a good record for long-term use. Benzos should be the last resort, not the first resort.
 
Has the medical board or whoever regulates prescriptions introduced any new laws or cracked down on the prescribing of benzos? Both my friend and I got taken of me clonazepam and murelax, my friend Ativan and Xanax within a couple of weeks of each other. I've been on benzos for 8years my friend10. Neither of us were given Valium as a taper medication and have both been left cold turkey. Fortunately we do both have back up options but they don't prescribe the doses we are used to or as frequently and because of the duration of benzos as treatment we are both looking at severe withdrawals. I think it was highly irresponsible of both of are doctors to not correctly take us of them. Generally the dose is swapped to a Valium equivalent dose and slowly reduced. The 20-100 supposed half life of Valium makes it easier to come off, but with no alternatives offered we are both facing cold sweats headaches insomnia rebound anxiety and worst case seizures. Has the regulations changed recently? It just seems coincidental separate doctors have just stopped prescribing and without offering any long lasting benzo substitute there is no way we can get through this and function normally which could jeopardise work and general well being. We are in adelaide but am interested to know if anyone else from Australia has been abruptly taken of benzos
 
I was prescribed 2mg xanax xr twice a day. Beautiful drug. Really killed my anxiety for a time period. When it stopped working I went into the psych ward because I totally flipped shit. I spent 20 days in there because the xanax wd had my mood levels seriously fucked up. Now I take one .5 ativan every day and to be honest even that feels like too much sometimes so I cut them in half. This is equivalent to a .25 xanax every day which I have to cut in half! So basically taking a 1\16th of my previous dosage is all I really need now. These drugs are either under prescribed by well intentioned but somewhat ignorant doctors. Or they are handed out like candy but well intentioned but ignorant doctors.

When all is said and done I wish I had as much common sense about the dangers of these drugs when I was taking them. Benzos are reallly bad habits and though its been 9 months since I've had a huge amount in my possession I still struggle with them.

Thats interesting, did it make you bitchy? Also just curious how can 2mg xanax not feel like too much but 0.5 ativan does? And was the pill yellow?
 
I got a few benzos from someone at school (didnt think it would of been that easy) and i must say they took away the shakiness i get in class which makes me look like an alcoholic or something. I was able to sit their for endless hours without a simple shake, and walked around the facility 6 times without even thinking too much of it. Last of all i was able to approach people feeling mildly excited, and not over thinking it like i would be sober. What a wonderful day as it comes to an end.
