Opioids question about mixing opioids and alcohol

Hey guys, im new to this forum and cant figure out how to post my own thread sooo I figure this would be a good one to ask my question on.. I drink a lot and like taking painkillers but never have I combined the two. I started my day off with some drinks and then got a connection on some painkillers. So heres my question, say I took one shot of whiskey, how long would I have to wait before it is safe to take a recreational dose of painkillers? or is it safe to mix the two?

Its never safe to mix the two. Even if you have a tolerance to both. BOTH of my overdoses involved alcohol and opiates. The combination greatly suppresses your breathing, and increases drowsiness. That means you're at risk of falling asleep and suffocating.

I moved your post into it's own thread so you'll get better replies. I would STRONGLY advise that you do NOT combine alcohol with opioids. They are both extremely potent Central Nervous System depressants, and when combined, their CNS depressant effects are exponentially higher, which can lead to fatal respiratory depression, coma, and death.

It is a really dangerous combination, one that you can't safely mix. The use of alcohol is contradicted with opioid narcotics, so many people have died on this combo it's some serious shit that should not be done.

Do your pain pills contain acetaminophen? If so, it makes the combination even more dangerous due to the hepatotoxicity of Tylenol.

it not safe. ever. especially if you have never mixed the two. You may stop breathing. if you're going to do it start off low with the PKs. and dont take PKs if you're already shitfaced drunk, now thats really not safe.
it at least doubles the effect, and possibly will make you throw up so watch out.

I'm drinking a beer and have had some hydrocodone, and I'm alive And I take benzodiazepines with opioids, as many of us do; I know my tolerance, and I do not consume excessive doses. But extreme caution should be used when combining any depressant drug with any opioid.

With that said, the combination of alcohol and opioids (hepatoxicity aside) is no less safe than the combination of benzos and opioids, or whatever other favorite CNS depressant-potentiator, like carisoprodol. Alcohol is a strong potentiator of opioids, but like anything can be used conscientiously. I'm not by any means advocating this combination, especially not to the [opiate] naive and intolerant. But a drink or two on top of a reasonable dose is not unsafe.

zeehitter- If you're going to do this, decrease the normal dose/quantity you'd normally consume of each, and keep the number of drinks to a minimum.

keep in mind that there is a huge difference in how someones body will react when mixing opioids and alcohol for the first time even if it's just a drink or two, compared to someone who has been combining them for a long time.

Depends on what your taking, how much, and your tolerance. It could either end bad, or it can make u feel really good. If your not used to painkillers then I wouldn't suggest it.

there is a LARGE number of factors involved in the safety (or lack thereof) of mixing booze with opiates. first of all, mixing alcohol with opiates is unsafe. period. secondly, i do it EVERY DAY. you have to know your limits. depends on your opiate tolerance. depends on your alcohol tolerance....i stick to 3.2%ABV beer when taking opiates. i am currently on 40 mg of oxycodone and my third beer. a typical opiate dose for me is 40-60mg oxycodone with 8-10 3.2% beers. that is enough to put some people in the hospital, though. how much do you drink? do you drink daily? how much/what kind of opiates do you take? do you take opiates daily? a mixture of the two could kill one person and do absolutely nothing at all to another. proceed with caution. i personally LOVE drinking on opiates but the only reason it is even remotely safe for me is because i know my body, i know what i can handle, and i know how i feel when i need to stop to avoid even getting close to O.D. know your body, be smart, and take my advice and do not mix the two.

most definitely. when i can not find any oxy and resort to hydrocodone to stave off withdrawals, i cut my beer intake WAAAAAY down. six narco 10's is a usual dose for me to get rid of withdrawals and that is a LOT of acetaminophen. i try to stick to one to two beers tops when i have to take a dose like that.

i also take milk thistle (awesome for the liver) with every meal. happy trails. be careful. PLEASE be careful. i have been doing opiates daily for years and i am also a daily consumer of beer and of my prescribed .5mg klonopin twice a day and my prescribed 25mg promethazine twice a day (which is an excellent drug to take with opiates). opiates + promethazine = so wonderful.
