Opioids Literally TRIPPING on Methadone

I used to be an opiate addict, and have suffered with pain issues stemming from a motorcycle accident a few years back.


A few days ago, my best friend gave me 100 mgs of methadone liquid as a present, when I arrived in town for a visit. He recommended I drink it all at once. So after eating 30mgs of adderall, and having 600 mgs of gabapenting; I drank all 100mgs.


What happened next was unexpected.... for a few hours I was euphoric from the speedball cocktail. Then the methadone really began to take hold. Now I've tried all manner of opiates in the past, and I have had lucid dreams, but this was totally different. I was actually tripping. I mean tripping like seeing visuals, entities, trees were dancing. Any place I could picture in my head, and BAM I would instantly be there. Other times the visuals were totally random ... As if I were tripping on LSD or MDMA, or shrooms. . but even MORE intense. One other time on a high dose of methadone, was the only similar situation to this one. It seems totally unique to methadone...

It was beyond awesome... I was walking around and talking to my friends and family; they all knew I wias on drugs, and were cool with it.ions My eyes were going in all directions , I could barely talk. I slept amazing.

Has anyone "TRIPPED" from methadone like this? Why is it only methadone I find so psychedelic?
 
100mg is a really high dose. I have experienced the kind of lucid dreaming from high doses of oxymorphone, morphine, heroin, or methadone, but no moving trees and stuff.
 
Thank you captian heroin! I can always count on your knowledge.. its legendary. I didn't realize methadone was a NMDA antagonist... it makes perfect sense. The only other drug that could compare to this experience is DXM...

I've also noticed that DXM/methadone trips, make my adderall work better in the days after the trip. They sort of "reset" my tolerance for amphetamines. I know there is some sort of interaction going on between the two anyways.

I just took 50mgs of methadone with 2mg klonopin and 800 mgs gabapentin .I'm feelin fine ; ) .... but i wanna take more methadone before bed.

Yes, many people can use NMDA antagonists to reduce tolerance to various drugs (opiates, amphetamines, etc.) - it's hard to quantify by how much/how long though, but it is noticeable by many people.

maybe a consultant for a rich and naiive drug user in hollywood. . . Like a producer/director/actor who wants to use a shitload of different shit, and needs to educated on the proper and safe ways to achieve better and longer highs , Sans the brain damage and emotional breakdowns lol. .

we are good at drugs

It's so funny this thread came about, because I actually made a post in the Methadone Megathread the other day, that the few times I injected (micron filtered) Methadone, I felt a kind of trippy, dissociative effect, similar to a more euphoric DXM high. It's definitely not the same thing as high dosages of other opiates where you drift into a nod and start talking to people that aren't there... That's typical of most opiates. I know what the OP is talking about, I've experienced It to an extent (though I didn't have as intense of an experience), and I do believe it has to do with the fact that it is an NMDA antagonist.
 
This post was really interesting for me to read.
I have been taking methadone for around 9 years now and I know loads of other addicts who take it as well but this is the first time I have ever heard of anything like this happening ever.
Real surprising and interesting post indeed.
 
Your incorrect use of "literally" made me think this thread was something totally different.

Yes, has happened to others, especially with gabapetin, because I believe methadona has some NMDA agonism like dxm or special k. UTSE for stories

yes, nmda activity. first time i took it i took 50 and i was a zombie for a full 24 hours nodding in and out, it def bordered on the trippy, id close my eyes and see all sortsof crazy shit, add driving (not me) into the mix and it almost impossible not to sleep and get all trippy.

100 is a huge dose. i take 110 at the clinic and i shot dope for many years no wonder you got rocked. be easy on that shit, it lasts forever and is deceptively strong.

Lolwhhat? There is at least 1 trip report somewhere about this, hence UTSE. Also literally tripping is different from psych-tripping, so I thought this was a thread about methadone hindering coordination or something
 
Like it has been said 100mg is quite a high dose for methadone, wikipedia says the lethal dose is 50mg without a tolerance though I'm guessing you have a pretty high one. I know a symptom of opiate OD(not necessarily life threatening levels) is hallucinations so that would be my guess as to the cause of you tripping. The gabapentin most likely added to the overall experience as well. For the sake of harm reduction I wouldn't recommend trying this regularly, there are much better ways to trip, but best of luck and be safe.
 
Well I don't know if this is relevant, but years back when I was into crystal meth I had a similar experience. The first time I smoked crystal my "boyfriend" (total dirtbag) was an addict and I had bought some to try it and because we were sharing it he kept having me back bowl after bowl so he could keep smoking. So I did WAY too much and was immediately hallucinating. Other than my first time, aside from maybe the occasional paranoid sound or thinking I saw something for a second due to lack of sleep, I did not have any other hallucinations UNTIL one night I smoked Oxy off of foil for my first time along with crystal. I almost immediately began seeing shit. I'd just gotten back from a week long horse show, so for some reason I just kept seeing fucking HORSES everywhere. Walking up the rode, in windows, grazing in the park... And people riding them or carrying saddles. At first it was funny but then it got really sketchy because these didn't seem like hallucinations... Everything looked so real! However, in all my years of drug use I've always remained very centered and rational. So I knew of course that it was due to the crystal and oxy combination.

It's never happened again, however I've always thought that it was due to combining crystal and oxy. Maybe you had a similiar reaction when combining methadone and adderal? I've been on methadone for 4 months now and even though I had a very high tolerance (I was doing 3gs of H just to be well and before that I was doing 400mg+ of morphine or 300mg of oxy at a time before going CT for a while and then started on the H) they started me at 40mg of methadone and I was fine. Didn't feel amazing, but I definitely was nodding a little. So I just want you to know, 100mg of methadone with no prior tolerance was a dumbass move. You are lucky you didn't OD. You need to know what the hell you're taking and how much you should be taking or you're going to kill yourself. Just because you're a drug user doesn't mean you have to be stupid, shit like that gives us all a bad name.
