Classic, shame you EADD lot aint more into your Reggae, guess thats what you get for growing up with a best freind who's dad was from Kingston & had a vinyl collection as wide as most people's Sofa

Ah, I like reggae alright. Though I grew up next to a best friend whose dad was from Belfast and whose mother was born in Uganda, so maybe the influence was less direct.

Anyway, it doesn't come much more life-affirming than this:
Big Youth - Dread In Babylon

I don't tend to post much reggae as it's not in keeping with my joyless image. I once had a massive roots reggae phase though - in the middle of a breakdown, which also skews my view of it a little.

And to "Though I grew up next to a best friend whose dad was from Belfast and whose mother was born in Uganda, so maybe the influence was less direct." I would say Yes thats right, at the time for many years I was into heavy death metal & also really heavy dub / roots reggae (Burning spear for example)
I think being exposed to sound system culture, reggae, dub lead me into early ragga jungle, dub reggae, REAL UK Dubstep, raggacore.

There is something about reggae after a smoke that just fits.

Also Sam check Jah 9, she is a new reggae star from Jamacia

I'm not much into contemporary reggae, farmaz. Or Burning Spear for that matter. Though I'll take your word for it.

Like I said, my tastes are more around the Trojan records roots stuff and so on, but as a genre I find that (like the blues, hardcore punk or heavy metal) it can be a straitjacket. To say nothing of some of the lyrical themes, which I find in some cases a bit too 'traditional' in their outlook with regard to religion, sexual equality, tolerance etc. for my liking.

Not to say I don't appreciate the tip - I've just covered that ground already. :)

Now, where was I with that Johnny Thunders LP?
