Can you mix atarax and benedryl?

Im 5ft9-225lbs

im perscribed 150mg of atarax, could i take 1 benadryl with that? Would i fet extra drowsy?

They are both antihistamines so there will definitely be an increase in sedation.. Why do you need the benadryl on top of the hydroxyzine?

I read that its bad to mix the two becuase their both antihistimines. I just want a little more sedation to help cope with benzo withdraw, are you sure its same to mix the 2?

The reason for the warning on mixing the two is from the extra sedation that will occur. If that's what you're looking for than that's okay.. though I would just take more of the atarax if I were you.

Does atarax potentiate benzo's too? All that is going to happen is me getting more sedated and thats it?

Taking them with benzos isn't a really good idea.. the combination of the sedation from the antihistamines and the benzos could be dangerous..

However, if you just took the two antihistamines together then yes, you'll just be more sedated.

Good question, I have mixed first generation antihistamines for many years. Doxylamine, diphenhydramine, promethazine
and / or propiomazine. Have asked dr:s, no they do not recommend it. But no-one has motivated, explained why. I am
in the dark here.. dangerous not dangerous. I do not prefer to waste my benzo-tolerance
sleeping it up. Anthistamine-combos feel more broadspecrum, more effective for sleep than just
increased dose of a single drug. Placebo or not, I really do not know.

There are more then one histamine receptors in the brain, which will prob account for a combo feeling more broad and full in effects as more 'buttons' are pushed by the different antihistamines. Anti-histamines are in general really safe meds within normal dosing bounds but mixing with opiates, benzos or other sedating drugs is an experienced users game only.
