Sterilizing phenethylamine solutions?

Hey guys, I've got some 2c-p in solution at 10mg/ml and I want to find a way to sterilize it.

Has anyone here done something similar or have any insight?

Just add some really strong alcohol, an equal amount of 160 proof or everclear should sterilize it. Pay attention that a total of <15% vol. of alcohol will probably not sterilize as much as inhibit growth. So make it stronger. Like >25% ?

I'd forget about other methods like UV irradiation, boiling or adding conservatives.

If you want to keep the same concentration of 2C-P you could try to first evaporate half of the water you are now using before adding the alcohol. You could tare and weigh containers and the alcohol you will use to calculate that you end up with the same concentration as before. Using density seems more easy than using volume, unless you have pipettes and stuff.

It depends on how long... for a short period it should remain potable, just like it would without the alcohol, yet maybe marginally longer. How long varies depending on the type of contaminations and how optimal the conditions are for them.

To be sure I would approach your solution as if it were non-alcoholic (not sure why you would put 2% in??).

Put the solution in a clear bottle or container if it isn't already in a transparant one... let it sit overnight without any movement. Then next day gently swirl it and look at the bottom if any kind of precipitated material moves. If there is nothing visible, plus it smells fine, and it hasn't been all that long, you are probably okay.

If there is precipitant in it, that means nasty shit has been growing in it - which you could try filtering with a glass microfiber filter for example, but if you are very unlucky and those germs produced toxins, they might be already dissolved in the water. I have no estimate on the kind of chance of that happening, nor am I sure about further factors of safety involved.

I had DOB in solution once that turned sour because I didn't put any alcohol in it... considered doing a work-up to salvage it but finally I just let that mother be.

Pharmaceutical companies typically sterilize solutions for intravenous administration by filtering with a sterile 0.2 micron syringe filter into a sterile, septum-sealed vial with a sterile syringe and needle. Typically this needs to be done in a laminar flow hood with proper aseptic technique, though. I'm not sure if you really want it sterile, or if you just want to minimize microbial growth, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

If I remember correctly, 70% alcohol solutions are usually used to sterilize things. If you decide to use an alcohol concentration that high, be sure to take steps to minimize evaporation.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your input so far.

What about dry heat sterilization at 160°C seeing as how the mp is 207°C?

Any idea how long?

This Is for IM admin.

EDIT: Or could there be toxins excreted by the bacteria rendering it unsuitable for injection even if sterile?

If you've had the compound sitting in solution for a long time without sterilizing it, then yes, it's possible that the bacterial endotoxin concentration is too high, and even if you sterilize it now you might have an adverse reaction.

If I may hijack this for a short question: I keep one last dose of 2c-b-water solution in a airtight brownglass for about 2 years in my closet...

Is this still safe to consume? And yeah I know...why even keep it that long or how to not touch it^^

Thanks, then I'm good to go for New Years Eve. Making fireworks the elegant way.

Re-read the thread: watery solutions can develop contaminations even though the nutrients in the water are limited. Even for oral use you should take precautions to preserve the water sitting in a closet for 2 years.
The same rules apply that we already talked about: alcohol does the job, filtering shit out afterwards does too but safety cannot be guaranteed.
Please add some alcohol to your solution if you don't want to get sick during a trip / during NYE.
