Police, customs nab MDMA worth $60,000

More than $60,000 worth of MDMA has been obtained in a joint New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs operation.

A 25-year-old Wellington woman will appear in the Wellington District Court today and police say more charges are likely after customs intercepted a package containing 330 grams of the MDMA going to a Wellington Post Office Box number from a North American address.

Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said the drugs have an estimated street value of more than $60,000...

Probably gonna be a lot of sad New Zealand kids during New Year.

"Drugs like this do untold damage to our community. Police are pleased to have disrupted the actions of a group whose sole intention was to sell the drugs with the aim of making significant amounts of money, Mr Mckee said.

"The harm that these drugs cause to our community is immense with groups like this targeting the vulnerable.

"Experimenting with these types of drugs can lead to tragic circumstances and Wellington police are determined to be proactive in disrupting this type of serious offending."

lol!

I doubt it well do anything to the MDMA trade.

What kind of harm is it really doing to society?

I'd worry about the fentanyl coming from the Netherlands, not the MD.

^ I think they should be more worried about alcohol and P (meth) related violence there, not too sure how bad the OD/death rate is from fent there, but I cant imagine people get too violent on it, but they may steal for it, idk.

That mdma bust is probably not that much in the whole scheme of things, but NZ has always had alot of shit pills anyway, so I guess it'll just make things worse.

Man jailed for importing class B drugs

An Auckland man charged with 9 charges of importation of Class B controlled drugs was sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment today in the Manukau District Court following a Customs prosecution.

Jayden Wenski, an 18 year-old student, pleaded guilty to importing almost 10 kilograms of ContacNT which contains the class B controlled drug pseudoephedrine, commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine (‘P’). The potential methamphetamine yield would have amounted to a street value of between 4 to 5 million dollars.

Customs Manager Investigations, Mark Day, says one of the main strategies in stamping out ‘P’ is breaking supply chains. Customs plays a huge part in that with the seizure of precursor drugs such as ContacNT.

Mr Wenski was arrested by Customs officers after Customs intercepted packages at the International Mail Centre sent from China in Auckland. The packages contained ContacNT granules concealed in the lining of boxes of various electrical lighting goods.

“We are constantly alert to smuggling trends and we have capabilities, intelligence, expertise, and dedicated resources that help us stop drugs getting through,” says Mr Day.

One of the imported consignments consisted of cardboard cartons with a hollowed out cavity to hide the drugs.

“As with all cargo, packages that come through the mail are subject to Customs checks using methods such as x-ray, drug detector dog screening, and the experience of our vigilant Customs officers,” says Mr Day.

The packages, mostly from Hong Kong, were sent to a various Auckland addresses of friends of Mr Wenski who were unaware of what they contained, and in most cases were declared as lighting. Wenski had obtained permission from friends to use their addresses for the packages to be sent to and arranged for them to text message him when the package arrived.

“Offenders will always try new ways of getting drugs into the country but regardless of the concealments methods or where the parcels are destined for we will find them,” says Mr Day.

Importation of a class B controlled drug carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ imprisonment.

Police bust major pill lab preparing for NYE

Police have busted a "major" drug lab believed to be in the process of manufacturing thousands of ecstasy pills for New Year's Eve music festivals.

Officers have secured an inner-city commercial premises in Wellington where specialist Police Clan Lab staff and Environmental Science and Research scientists have begun to examine the scene.

Processing the "major drug-manufacturing site" is expected to take several days.

"This is a full-scale commercial operation," Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said.

"The lab includes powder, pills, chemicals and equipment including a pill press, which police believe has been used to manufacture ecstasy.

"Always of concern is the dangerous and volatile chemicals that are used.

"The chemicals present a very real threat to the wellbeing of our community.

"We believe it was set up to distribute thousands of pills at upcoming music festivals over the New Year period.

"The harm these drugs cause has a significant impact on our health services and can rip families apart."

Three 22-year-old men from the Hutt Valley and Wellington have been arrested and will appear in the Wellington District Court today on serious drug charges.

"We are determined to take a zero-tolerance approach to drug manufacturers and suppliers and use all our available resources to hold them to account," Mr Leitch said.

Too bad the war on drugs has been less than 1% percent effective.

That original price estimate is getting near $200 a gram all the way up. I am not normally one to mention the ridiculous estimates police put forward, but, this one is extra ridiculous.

It's crazy how young drug manufacturers and smugglers often end up being. I always picture some tough crime lord being in charge, but I guess ecstasy is such a strange market that it is pretty much up for grabs by anyone who can get it pressed and out onto the streets.

Ridiculous.

The early 21st century will be looked back upon in history as one of the most insane periods of "modern" man, for the crackdown on drugs and other non-violent offenses on one hand, and the propagation of war after war on the other, while not being aware of its own screaming hypocrisy.

Also, 60 grand is a drop in the bucket.

I thought that was strange as well. I just assumed that it was price fluctuation because New Zealand is an island (import/export reasons).

Actually it's not too exaggerated, assuming it's fairly pure MDMA. MDMA sells for 300 - 400 a gram here in Australia, and like most drugs I'd imagine it's the same or even more next door in NZ.

I know we aren't supposed to get in price discussion, but that is fucking crazy. Do you think it has something to do with being isolated? I would never dream of MDMA being that expensive.

Nice job pig you saved countless lives 8) now people will instead use some crappy legal highs that are 100x more dangerous.

yeah or they will drink even more alcohol and take some P and beat the fuck out of some person or people or maybe even a cop.

If what crankinit says is right regarding the price per g of molly here, then over in nz it would be even more for sure, they could have estimated it at well over 100k..
