I can understand prison time for the break in, but was time seriously tacked on for snorting ashes?

as stupid as they may be, eight years? Ive seen violent criminals and sex offenders get lighter sentences

They have an incentive to keep non-violent people in jail for longer. There's less overhead, less riots, less shit for security guards who work at jails to deal with.

I think it's fucking horrible frankly, and wish that violent criminals, especially people who harm children, actually did much longer sentences than drugs charges.

If I were to try to explain this discrepancy to people, they would just try to say "oh well neither thing is good!" like that justifies there being a huge discrepancy. They think of it like it doesn't effect them because they aren't a violent person and don't use drugs.

It's sad people can't realize the principle behind the matter.
