Lots of spoilers for this episode so…
That's some gangster chess right there.
Now the question becomes, with so many questions to resolve and angles to pursue, where does the series go from here?
Edit: One question in particular would be, how did Nucky get Andrew Mellon to agree on the distillery issue? Mellon isn't involved in the underground/overground gangster culture, and as evidenced by his not even knowing Rothstein's name, he couldn't possibly have done it as a personal vendetta. To me it only seems like a loss for him, but I'm guessing that will be addressed in the near future.
It was pure genius. Nucky teams with Capone, bribes Rothstein with a distillery in return that Rothstein buys off Masseria to get his help off of Rossetti. Capone and Chalky then massacre Masseria's men on their route and Nucky turns in Rothstein's ownership of said distillery to the federal prosecutor. Meanwhile, Richard singlehandedly takes out all of Rossetti's men to rescue Tommy. Nucky and Eli then handle the rest of them, including Rossetti himself.
So basically, in one single motion Nucky eliminated an entire world of people actively working against him while aligning himself with the rest.
