I dreamt I learned to play the guitar and it made me happy. What's a decent guitar for learning on? I'm an old cunt, am I wasting my time? I can play the piano, or used to be able to anyway, so I have some finger dexterity.

I like blues / r'n'b guitar most of all I think. Not a fan of classical or "rock".

Same question re saxophone. I always wanted to play the sax. Cash Converters and similar places are always selling musical instruments, are they a wise place to buy? Or should I stick to a proper instrument shop? I love a bargain, see.

^ I've got a guitar sitting right in front of me. Swapped my Trigger Finger for it. Really regret that now. I don't have the patience for the guitar. Every time I attempt to learn it I just want to smash it to pieces, been so close to taking it out the back & smashing it up just to prove a point to... well, to no-one but just to make feel better lol.

yeah i did actually think about mentioning he is better known. but still, he doesnt usually show up in them daft best guitarists of all time lists. and for someone who died on his all fours foaming at the mouth and barking like a dog ..well thats a crying shame

I've not actually read anything about his death. Just the devil at the crossroads story.

Squire fender stratocaster knock. cant beat the blues tone on the neck pickup

A guitar I've heard of, nice. Thank you.

EDIT Actually you confused me. I've heard of Fender Stratocaster but not Squier , but I've read that they're a brand owned by Fender. So is the Squier a cheap version of the Fender?

Your voodoo child sounds pretty good! You must have been playing for a while, eh?

well he did leave his peers and fellow greats charlie patton, son house et al not being able to play and returned a short while later an absolute master. he couldve just learned it real quick i suppose, but its somewhat nicer to believe the legend

and yeah, apparently he dropped to his knees barking like a dog as he died. thats a bit fucking dodgy

Aye that's essentially the bit I know about his story/life. I like to believe the legend as well lol. I'm gonna try to grab a book about him or something, I'd like to read more about him.

Were you learning from a book? I bet a few professional lessons to get you going would help with the patience issue. I sort of have the same issue, I want to be good RIGHT NOW, so I tend to skip ahead to stuff I'm not ready for and it just gets demoralising, but when someone is imposing structure on you then it can help a lot. Once you've got the basics covered I imagine a teacher would be less important.

I've got a concertina here that I muck about with from time to time, they're easy enough to get started with that you can teach yourself, but they're a bit limiting in terms of musical style. Same with everything, if you want to learn something that you can do a lot with, you need to put that time in getting the basics right.

Dan, are you self-taught or did you have lessons?

I feel like complete, suicidal shit. I don't know if it's a rebound withdrawal from the 20mg of xanax I ate in two days (trying and failing to sleep), the past week of totally fucked sleeping patterns, or some tramadol withdrawals.

As recipes for misery go, that's a bit of a heavy one. Best of luck pulling out of it.

And the coke blokes a real twat. Either that or he just wants to bum you. ;)

I assume the expat fauna in Bangkok is quite the array of different characters, that 50 year old bloke sounds bad imo.

I've had similar things happen to me, people off their tits giving me coke or drone, the ringing me two hours later saying they'd run and if they could come over and do some of the stuff they'd given me. Twats

To be honest it also happened to me, being too euphoric and giving away too much stuff only to regret it once I was running low, at least I was never so shameless to ask people to give it back though, that's just low.

Anyway Pontifex, you're getting married, you have the next few decades to feel miserable and suicidal, try to enjoy your last few weeks of freedom.
