Almost 400 criminals paid the penalty for pursuing a life of illegal activity as police swooped to arrest them during the latest Relentless day of action.
The final arrest total of 380 was the highest in the seven-year history of Relentless and sends out a stark message to those intent on pursuing a life of illegal activity, that crime simply does not pay in Avon and Somerset.
Yesterday's day of action followed a two-month long campaign, targeting many of the area's most prolific criminals responsible for car crime, burglary and robbery. During that operation the police arrested more than 1200 culprits.
Since Relentless was launched in Avon and Somerset in 2005 there have been almost 4000 arrests.
The latest "day of action" began during the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday) as briefings were held across the force area in the six policing districts, laying the foundation for a miserable day for criminals in Avon and Somerset.
Around 1000 police officers, police community support officers and police staff supported the event with many of those who are normally based at police headquarters in Portishead joining colleagues across the force area to tackle criminals head-on.
During the course of the latest 24-hour period of enforcement action, cells across the force area were quickly filled and courts were kept busy with a steady stream of arrested culprits.
A number of cannabis factories were dismantled and those wanted on warrant returned to the courts.
Backing up the enforcement action across the force area, officers mounted reassuring high visibility patrols in anti social behaviour hotspots, providing crime prevention advice and guidance and also receiving information and intelligence from members of the public.
Assistant Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said: "You can't carry out this kind of operation on your own. The quality of information from the public assisted us tremendously, to make this one of the most successful Relentless operations in the seven-year history. They have been our 'eyes and ears' and we responded positively.
"The daylong event was an extension of our normal daily policing but highlighted how professional our staff are, doing what they do best.
"It demonstrates we will not shy from taking on the criminals head-on to provide public reassurance, confirming Avon and Somerset as a safe place to live and work," confirmed ACC Bangham.
Hmm, 'a stark message to those intent on pursuing a life of illegal activity, that crime simply does not pay in Avon and Somerset.'
That's awfully bad copy but I bet they were chuckling as they wrote it.
some agree with me & some don't.
People's personalities, like buildings, have various facades, some pleasant to view, some not.
