A mother branded a drug dealer a “coward” during an emotional confrontation at an inquest after he refused to name the source of the ecstasy that killed her daughter.

Diana Harding tried to appeal to the conscience of Thomas Donelon after the hearing was told MDMA he sold to her daughter Serena caused a fatal overdose.
She asked if it did not “trouble him” that “more people could die” from the drug and then branded him a coward after he refused to name his supplier.
The outburst happened as Donelon, 20, who is serving a two-year sentence for dealing, gave evidence at the inquest at Stockport Magistrates court.
Mrs Harding asked Donelon: "Does it not trouble you that the people who sold you this drug are going out spreading this?
“More people could die. It's these low life you are working for, you don't know the purity you are buying."

A police investigation into Serena's death found the same high-purity MDMA at Donelon's house to that detected in her blood after her death.
Millington, Donelon and a third man, Dean Williams – who handed over cash to buy the drug – were all arrested after the tragedy.
Millington and Williams were both given suspended sentences of 12 and six months respectively for supplying a Class A drug.
Insp Tracey Keegan, who investigated the case, said: "We know Millington described MDMA to Serena as a positive and safe experience and was also an experienced drug user.
“This was a tragic case of a young girl who appears to have willingly accompanied a friend to try very high purity MDMA."

Sounds like a combination of pre-existing illness and far too high a dose. 250mg of pure MDMA would be nasty to someone with no tolerance. Such a waste :( It's just a shame that the mother is targeting the dealers, and not the politicians and special interests which keep the drug market underground.

She should have known better than to do any drug from a dealer she didn't know. But, the same time the dealer should be doing at least 20 years for aiding in killing a young girl.Keeping the drug market underground on MDMA? That's absurd!! WTF?

Took a lot of mdma lately. I knew pills, but not pure mdma. It sent me on an intense horror trip for a few days. I usually read about drugs before taking them, but i left this step out because i thought it is comparable to pills. I may be lucky to be alive.
We need more drug education to prevent such tragic accidents.

This is like the fifth death I've heard about from 250 mg pills. I guess they sell better, but they're bad pharmacy.

its kinda like how there used to be 160 mg oxycontin but then people were dying.....
Its bad for business when the clientelle dies...

I dunno about anyone else but I didn't learn anything in school.... legal or otherwise.

Actually no, I learnt not to trust authority and you can pray to jesus to refuel your car and it magically happens.

I'm suprised that nobody told her to at least start with half, this whole tragedy could've been avoided. The kid dealing it had to know how strong it was....

“More people could die. It's these low life you are working for, you don't know the purity you are buying."

So legalize and regulate it?

Pathologist Dr Charles Wilson said Serena had been found to have had a severe kidney infection at the time of her death, possibly caused by the drugs she took to manage her disease.

Soooo the medicine had a lot to play in it..

If drug education was taught in schools they would have known that 250mg of MDMA is way too much.
If drugs were legal people would feel a lot better about going to the doctor for advice.. something that could have saved this girls life.
If drugs were legal then regulation would ensue. No more accidental overdoses when a user goes from a weak back to a strong batch. No more health implications caused by adulterants.
If drugs were legal that poor guy wouldn't be treated like a murderer. Do the shops get done for selling the rope a man used to hang himself with? Does Ikea get done when somebody uses one of their knives to stab somebody? Do the off licences and super markets get done when they're customers die from lung cancer or liver failure? What about the doctor that prescribed the pain killers that his patient went on to kill himself with?

It's bullshit.

Wake up.

The war on drugs has been lost.

I had a crazy idea the other day, why dont we legalize the drugs so people can know what they are taking and that way we will avoid deaths! what do u guys think?

1) She died because she used a drug that put extra strain on her kidneys during a kidney infection.
2) The dealer's family or friends could be murdered for him snitching. How about we just lock up the dealer and let the feds do the investigation?

3) This story is one sided. Mom is really at the bad end of the stick here. We as readers feel compassionate that she lost her daughter. As a societal norm, it's pretty common to dislike drug dealers, therefore this use of a mother character dealing with loss against a common enemy (Drug dealers) = Daughterless Mom against the evil drug scum of the world.

I see this as: Mom loses her daughter to a rare, possible disease related overdose. Mom sees no other outlet except the drug dealer to attack. Media covers story and changes some things. Dealer is probably scared out of his mind trying to save his family. Drug users are further degraded to "Should be put to death".

I'm not saying this story isn't unfortunate, but if it really was, then why the hell is it being made a public battle and not a damn memorial for the dead daughter? Do people really need to seek vengeance over mourning? If my son or daughter died from this, I would be angry too, but my first priority would be making their memory last in a positive way. People have a great tendency to forget that children do not deserve to be remembered for the causation of their death. A drug overdose is a horrible way to explain your memory of that person.

She received good quality MDMA according to the article, legalization would not have saved her kidneys in this situation. I don't feel like any amount of education would save her. If there were multiple warnings leading to her unfortunate death, she blew right past them.

“I would make a plea to youngsters particularly that you simply don't know the purity or strength that you are taking of a drug or the effect it will have on you."
Then that's why they need to visit ecstasy discussion on bluelight if they've already made the committed decision to do it :)

"Hey guys I have a severe kidney infection and am on several medications. I'm getting very strong MDMA this weekend and was wondering if I should take it or wait until my kidneys heal."

The media is really milking this story for all of its emotional appeal to fuel the usual anti-drug propaganda. That gets me more than the mother's words. She is just as brainwashed by anyone else and will naturally refuse to acknowledge her daughter's own responsibility in killing herself.

We know that only teaching children sexual abstinence does not result in less unwanted pregnancy, less transmission of disease, and less social turmoil; yet somehow the mantra "don't do drugs" is still being touted like it means a damn. Maybe if the police publicized dangerous pill reports instead of keeping them secret, or advising people on the medical complications of doing MDMA under certain conditions, we would not be seeing young people dying and parents having misdirected rage.

The whole situation is sick.

That would send the wrong message to the children, that its "ok" to do drugs.

So because her daughter sought out a drug that she knew was illegal and thus unregulated and ended up dying and because the dealer refused to name names for a lighter sentence and also maybe get his family killed in the process he's a coward? Yeah right on 8)

She should have known better to even try MDMA with a pre existing condition that serious. Not to mention she was taking drugs for the Crohn's disease and god only knows how something like a corticosteroid might have interacted with the MDMA. Throw a kidney infection on top of it and the anti-biotic's used to treat it and you are asking for it.

It's this complete lack of responsibility and passing the buck that has society the way it is. Maybe if her she had taught her daughter some harm reduction instead of saying something like "drugs are bad and you will go to hell if you take them and make baby jesus cry" her daughter might not be just another statistic of the drug war.

They didnt take 250mg pills, they took a quarter gram of mdma each, powder form.
