Death of the accent

Why the fuck do people want to sound like they are from Jamaica, that daft dappy is one of them clowns isn't he. There's nothing worse than hearing a white man trying to sound black.

I don't know how it is in small remote rural towns, but I wouldn't consider the "blud" accent to be either jamaican or "black. In London it's just part of the landscape, I mean I was living in bethnal green and literally all the young pakistani fellas spoke like this, naturally, it's not like they were acting. Like a lot of my mates in Hackney both white and black(not jamaican, born and bred in London, parents orginally from West Africa).

To be honest the blud accent is just another established London accent these days.

All my friends have strong normal local accents, but when I go into town I always hear some generic shit cunt student accent, fuck knows where they come from but I hate them. Mixture of posh english and american, enough to cringe someone stupid, especially the females!

Weirdly, that's basically the same as "The Glasgow Uni Accent" that I was on about earlier in this thread. Just add a bit of really posh Scottish in to the mix. It's so fucking fake as well & you're right... especially birds. I know fucking loads of girls that talk like that, they're usually stuck up wee cows an all. Probably because there's less chance of them catching a punch to the mouth than a guy who just decides to start talking like that.

We have our own variations on the 'blud accent' around here.

I share your view that it's just an emerging accent. These things are subject to change over time - the 'traditional' working-class Manchester accents themselves were a product of ethnic minorities (Flemish, Italian, Irish, Jews of various nationalities) migrating to the city along with indigenous Britons from the surrounding towns.

Though it is admittedly annoying when you hear Tarquin from Cheltenham attempting to speak that way.

The accent in St. Helens is your stereotypical northern accent. We are about 12 miles from Liverpool city centre and the accents are like chalk and cheese, scousers call us woolybacks. we have have had a load of scousers move into the town and the trend among the teenagers seems to be to talk with a scousers twang in their voice, fuck knows why.

Woolybacks, aye! :D

We have our own version of the woolyback in Manchester - the Yonner. People from Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and all the other surrounding towns and regions where the accent is more Lancastrian.

The same phenomenon has occurred in a lot of yonner towns - many of the yoof have adopted more Manc-ish tones for whatever reason.
