I introduced a friend, ex meth addict, to dmt one afternoon a year or so back.
It was after a pharma trip, and they came to pick me up and were like wtf are you on man. I told them it was dmt, and i had some freebase if they were open to smoalk some, one was willing.
I had a particularly rough time that afternoon, one of those suddenly hit with another wave of the pharma when i thought i was out of the woods, on top of smoalking dmt with the friend. One of the most frightening expirences i had.
Back on topic though, the friend really enjoyed the expirence, and was raving about it for a few weeks afterwards. I was hesitant to provide him with any, and adamant about not smoalking for a while as well. A few weeks later, this friend when through some rough shit with his job, relationships, and issues with close friends he was living with at the time, and then moved to his hometown ~100mi away to get away from it all. I soon learned he was using meth once again, and when i saw him a few weeks later it was pretty obvious he was back in his addiction.
Now i'm not saying the dmt trip caused all this, not by a long shot. It just lingers in the back of my mind, as he was really only drinking and smoking weed at the time, and then here come some dmt, and he takes a massive trip. Then shit happens in his life shortly after and he falls back into addictive habits. He went through plenty of rough shit before then while abstaining from meth and kept a cool head and made it though. I don't blame myself, and i never really got a chance to talk to him about these thoughts, as we've fallen out, but you have to be careful.
Its the individuals that want to take whatever they can get their hands on, even if they don't know much about it, that you need to watch out for. The people that want to use it just to trip, escape, or whatever compared to using it as a tool to look at their life, and how they can improve. Those who want to use it as another perspective, window to look out of, they will be the ones who are left with a big mental dillema from seeing how their addiction affects them and those around them. Thats where your going to get anti-addictive affects from psychadelics.
But its hard to go into a trip with those intentions not addicted to meth, and even harder to make the changes you know HAVE to be made, because its the truth, what you were running away from in your addiciton. Theres still those that can ignore the truth when its right in front of their face though, and not everyone has one of those addiction breaking appifanies when they trip.
Its a situation/person dependant variable. If they really want to change, psychs can be a valuable tool if used correctly. If not, well you can break your thumb with a hammer, or build a house. You can cut a finger off with a skillsaw, or put a roof on that house. Every tool can be misused, and if its on a project like freeing yourself from an addiction, then you can fuck up the whole process by tripping incorrectly, or using psychadelic tools incorrectly.
