Here’s some good news: Meth may cause you to lose every tooth in your head, pick your skin to pieces and turn your brain into a slushy grey mess, but at least you won’t have to worry about the flu. Probably. Scientists at the National Health Research Institutes in Taiwan have determined that crystal meth may have flu-fighting properties

They took cultures of human lung epithelial cells, exposed them to different concentrations of meth and then infected them with an H1N1 strain of human influenza A. By 30 to 48 hours after infection, the meth-treated cells had a much lower concentration of the virus than the control group, the researchers reported. What’s more, this reduction occurred in a dose-dependent manner, meaning the more meth, the less the virus reproduced.

I wonder where they got the idea to do this, "lets take lung cells, infect them with the flu, and add methamphetamine n see what happens" is never a conversation Ive had anyway lol.

They could have just asked anyone who uses it. Pretty common knowledge among meth users in Aus that you rarely get sick from seasonal flu bugs and the like while getting on it, and that a quick shot or a puff is the best way to get up and going if you have gotten sick.
 
This goes with "regular" speed (dextro+levoamp.) aswell.
Haven't been ill for the last two years when taking amp every weekend. :)

Had meth a couple of times with the flu. Just does a great job at masking it. Gives you the ability to smoke heaps of ciggys and weed then when u come down the flu is 10 times worse.

A study conducted by researchers in Taiwan found that methamphetamine may possess flu-fighting properties, Medical Daily reported.

The study, published Tuesday in PLoS One, exposed human lung cells to varying quantities meth, then infected them with Influenza A (H1N1) viruses, a common subtype of human influenza.

After only 24 hours after infection, the control group of cells, which had not been treated with meth, contained the same concentrations of the virus as did the meth-treated cells.

However, 30 hours after infection, the meth-treated cells possessed significantly lower concentrations of the virus than the control group did. After 48 hours, the difference was even more pronounced.

Researchers also determined that meth's apparent anti-viral effect most likely occurs during the viral replication that takes place after infection, according to the study.

Don't go becoming a real-life Walter White just yet, however. Meth's negative effects -- including brain damage, psychosis, heart disease and severe weight loss - far outweigh whatever anti-flu properties it may have.

However, scientists hope to now search for safer, structurally similar compounds that could be used to fight the flu.

Maybe because the flu isn’t spread the same way with HIV...

HIV shuts down the immune system, I don’t think H1N1 Works like this.... Replication would naturally be slower right? From my understanding...

This might be why they see a huge increase with HIV and the immunosupressing factors of meth use...

I think the same would go for all immunosuppressing drugs... Does anyone agree?
 
Meth can be used safely to treat the flu I think people just have to use a small amount taken orally as im sure iving meth probably fun isn't to o safe

Which in theory would be fantastic in my case since I get prescribed Desoxyn. Although I haven't taken it in two years, but if it can fight/prevent the flu than that alone makes taking it that much more legitimate to me. I'm very afraid of the flu.

What happens is that our search engine doesn't do three letter words like "flu". I found this out by doing a search on LSD and finding zero results, which is obviously an error.

Exactly what I was about to say. Wonder what made them think to waste money on that experiment and where the idea came from.
 
Wait, so they just got the flu virus, and straight up dumped meth on it? >.> Does that indicate at all how it affects people who have the flu and take it? I bet you pour alcohol on it and it messes them up also, that doesn't mean alcohol fights the flu.
