Gibberings CIX: Faulty 'y' key? Or just high?

I predict a split within the Republican party in the next few years between the religious nutters and fiscal conservatives/Constitutionalists, there are a lot of republicans who have pragmatic views on most social issues and don't plan on turning the country into a theocracy, the party has been hijacked.

A fucking Mormon allowed near the end the world button? Aye that will be fucking right!

Don't you think the racists thought the same about letting a brown person near the button?

I agree that it's for the greater good that Romney lost, but surely you can find more pertinent things to criticise than his religion? His bigotry, perhaps?

The lunatic fringe has taken over, even by Rebuplican standards. They're having their IDS / Michael Howard moment.

Though who wrote Howard's manifesto? Why, one young David Cameron I believe...

Governor John Hickenlooper who reacted to the decision in the following statement: “The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so don’t break out the Cheetos or gold fish too quickly.”

gold fish?

I wish I had an 'end the world' button, I'd never actually press it, but it'd be a great blackmailing tool

Me too, I'd be hammering on it now instead of having to get up n go to uni in this shitey weather.

I'd be holding the world hostage and ask......one million dollars!!!

Yes, but if you asked them why they couldn't give you reasons other than "Coz dat der's a negro!". Whereas I can say "The Book of Mormon", he believes that. Game over. See ya later Mitt. (Which is what should have happened a long time ago, there should be some vetting process).

A racist saying Obama shouldn't be in power is in no way related to me saying that Romney shouldn't be. The colour of Obama's skin does not reflect the things he believes in, Mitt Romney's religion does.

But it is. It's still prejudice.

You seemingly believe that his religious beliefs alone make him unfit for office. Whereas the racists based their prejudice upon the colour of Obama's skin.

Regardless of the contents of the Book Of Mormon (which I also consider highly dubious by the way), you're basing your objection to his presidential bid on his religion.

Religious beliefs are like political ideologies. Would you feel comfortable having a white supremacist in the White House? Somebody who doesn't see non-white people as human? I mean the POTUS has the authority of waging war, if you read the stuff that Mormons believe in, no I would not feel comfortbale with having a practicing Mormon in charge of the world's largest nuclear arsenal. Give me Putin or the Chinese Politburo anyday, at least they're rational and not driven by fantasies and delusions.

I do believe that religious beliefs are a sign of mental disorder, a delusional hallucinatory state. The stuff that Mormons believe in makes Scientology sound rational.

Call me prejudiced, but whoever believes in stuff like this, belongs in asylum not a position of power and authority

"Joseph Smith Jr. said that when he was seventeen years of age an angel of God, named Moroni, appeared to him,[11] and said that a collection of ancient writings, engraved on golden plates by ancient prophets, was buried in a nearby hill in Wayne County, New York. The writings described a people whom God had led from Jerusalem to the Western Hemisphere 600 years before Jesus’ birth. According to the narrative, Moroni was the last prophet among these people and had buried the record, which God had promised to bring forth in the latter days. Smith stated that he was instructed by Moroni to meet at the hill annually each September 22 to receive further instructions and that four years after the initial visit, in 1827, he was allowed to take the plates and was directed to translate them into English."

I get your point but I still disagree. His beliefs, ie what he thinks, are what make him unfit for office. Those beliefs happen to be religious & are laid out in black & white in a book. Obama has brown skin. Full stop. That tells me nothing about what he thinks, what his beliefs are etc.

I agree with mad Ken.

Re Kennedy being a Catholic. I think we an all agree that while Catholicism is mental, it is not anywhere near the scale of full blown insanity that Mormon(ism?) is. You would need to have been brainwashed from birth or be genuinely insane to believe that Joseph Smith shit. They can't prove for a fact that god isn't real & that Moses didn't part the red sea but I'm damn sure it can be proven that The Book of Mormon is not true.

Come on, Obama has to say he believes in god to get elected, I doubt he actually does.

Like I said to Kenny, I think the Book of Mormon is highly dubious, to put it charitably. I also think the Old and New Testaments are full of shit.

You're singling out one religion, however. Were you to say 'no Bible / Tanakh / Qu'ran bashers full stop' I wouldn't have such a problem.

Anyway, it's America. Fuck it.

I'm singling out one religion because that is the religion in question. The relevant one. Why would I be discussing other religions?

You're saying a Mormon is unfit for office, but you're not extending that to other religions. Therefore you're seemingly demonising Mormons alone. Get it now? 8)

The ironic thing is that the US actually has a more clear separation of church and state than this country, at least in theory.

Sometimes I think you jump into making rash statements and then spend too much time and energy attempting to justify them.
