Can all these people talking about instant "coffee" please post in the Lounge coffee thread, rather than debasing this one please.

Dont knock it till you try it, especially when fresh( ie first week of opening) loses a bit of potency after that

Blows away some of those fancy arse Whittards and Taylors of Harrogate filter coffee's any day of the week

Not a match for Lavazza or Illy but on a good day its pretty fucking close

Struggling to get out the door at 6am on a wet dreary november morning it tastes pretty damn good to me.
Much better than the rubbish that most sell for those bloody "presses"

I drink non instant at weekends, but that will only be Lavazza or the Starbucks Colombian, but simply do not have the time to lounge around in my boxers on weekdays at 8 am like most can and make a nice slow cup of filter .
Kenco Colombian tastes good and has a kick, therefore its my default " first cup" of the day
Percol makes a good coffee as well called " Rocket Fuel" I think it has a touch of Guarana in it, but not much, its just marketing.

Yerba has a nicer more mellow kick than Coffee, but I just love the taste of Coffee

hmmmm, cafetiere froth won't be right...

if you can't get it as good as cafetiere frothing, you're definitely employing the wrong technique, or there's a problem with the frother. Have you unscrewed any nozzle attachments, and checked them VERY closely for blockages?

If the frother is working properly, and with the right technique, you should be able to have froth almost standing in a tower, proud of the top of the cup, like stiff beaten egg whites....

When you doing the initial bit knock, hover the nozzle between 1mm into the surface, and a few microns over the surface, you want the steam to be catching airbubbles on the way into the froth, I reckon fine tune your technique a bit...assuming your nozzles aren't blocked with smegma.

I leave the house at 6.30 every morning and manage to do a couple of espressos no problem...

I'm not keen on filter coffee, but i appreciate it takes a little bit longer.... get an espresso machine

got some "arabica coffee" shite at work, never had coffee so shit in my life

quite keen on Kenco. quite like coffee and benzos, or sticking vodka in coffee. cant drink too much coffee these days though, makes me feel a bit odd and sick sometimes, jittery, triggers my palps off, almost like a mini comedown after, never used to do that when i was younger

went through a phase of drinking it all day, made me feel shit after. deff aint doing that again. dunno how people live off those stimulation drinks, urgh

For anyone thinking good coffee takes time I'll say it again... AEROPRESS!!!! 30secs and you've got a coffee as good as espresso. And no I'm not a salesman! Just looks fucking ace.

And seriously, instant tastes like shit - nothing to do with snobbery, its bitter, watery and has hardly any flavour. It's like someone telling me I'm a food snob for turning down turkey twizzlers!!

I brew the filter first and then rush around getting ready for work, quickly poor it in a travel cup and away I go. It adds about 30 seconds to my morning routine compared to instant and means I have a tall cup of hot, black, full bodied loveliness. Its the only thing that makes the train ride bearable.

Indeed Daniel. Benzos or alcholol are not likely to produce the symtoms you mention. That's just the effects of too much caffine (and perhaps your sensitivity has been effected by meph abuse)

I have a friend like that, he can down a cup of strong coffee and feel nothing from it. Coke doesn't do much either to him lol, used to sit there sniffing lines with us and get bored. Maybe some people are wired to be tolerant to stimulants.

Regarding health benefits of caffeine posted above, I've read similar things. Its a great drug, moderate use makes the day better with no negative effects.

For me when I'm out and about at work (and its as close to payday for me to feel like rockerfella), its got to be a mocha from costa with a raspberry and white choc muffin mmmm. But most of the time I pilfer the offices supply of Nescafé instant canteen size tubs, I totally justify this by thinking they are entitled to drink as much coffee and tea (yuk!) as they want, so I will.

And by some strange coinsidance, I have canteen size Nescafé at home too , but I'd love the missus to get into the making of filter coffee for me!

Get her trained up ASAP. Its really not complicated just involves putting the water and coffee in two different parts of a machine and pushing a button. I'm a quest to get the world drinking proper coffee.
