The coffee apprecation thread

Greetings.

I feel like there needs to be a thread here in recognition of the second most glorious drink ever discovered by mankind.

I absolutely love coffee, the taste, smell, effects, etc.

Its got to the point where I'm a total snob with it, literally can't drink instant coffee at all, its vile stuff. Has to be top quality filter coffee or espresso, always black so the full flavour of coffee is present.

I've got a filter coffee machine and espresso machine here and have found Illy to be the best espresso while Taylors of Harrogate does some mighty fine filter coffee.

So what are other bluelighters' thoughts on coffee? Love it, hate it? Hopelessly addicted and in danger of losing house and family?

I never ever drink instant .

Tea in the morning then Earl Grey in the afternoon
 
I like your style Brimz, Lavazza is great stuff as well, had it out a lot and been meaning to get some for home. Looks like a decent piece of kit there as well. is 7 grams a lot then or what? I'm never sure of weights I just use one big spoon of espresso per cup.
 
i never ever drink instant either. Even those that claim to be on a par with fresh coffee taste fuck all like coffee IMO.

I've got an espresso machine, normally have about 6 cups a day, 2 sugars, half coffee, half frothy milk.

I usually have Co_op Italian roast beans, but occasionally treat meself to some Javan/Sumatran, or anything else that catches me eye. I always buy beans rather than preground.

Coffee's one of those things, lol, another one of those things I'm very anal about. (oh God nolys isn't still about is he?) I won't have anyone else make me a coffee either, I usually have tea if I'm at someone else's house, unless I know they are just as fussy as me, which is rare, well, never happens.

They give you a 7 gram spoon with the La Cafetiere so i just went with it n it's perfect
 
Straight black coffee (or even with milk) makes me a shivering wreck and borderline tweak. I only enjoy super-sweetened ice-creamish ice coffee cause I am so gay.

I'm quite like the whole 'flat white' thing lately which sounds similar to what you have - double espresso with the same amount of frothy milk added. Still end up having black filter coffee most of the time

I've yet to try grinding my own beans, is it much different in taste to the pre ground stuff?
 
I often mix different blends & create some nice aromas

I enjoy the preparation & i have to get it perfect bit like when i'm cooking Heroin honestly !
 
Have just started drinking coffee fairly regularly, never been a big fan until recently.

Fresh roasted beans (withing 4 weeks) taste the best. After a time they start to taste stale, once it's ground it goes stale even quicker. Good quality fresh pre-ground coffee is great, ground coffee that's been sat around for months... not so much. The Co-op Ethiopian stuff is the best I've found in supermarkets, tasty stuff

haha yeah I can imagine that. I'm going to get some high quality beans and a grinder, want to get more creative with it.

yeah it's half a cup of froth, but its not a lot of milk at all, I froth all the way till its nearly as stiff as meringue mix..

I've never got on with filter machines, or filtering full stop, I've always found it a bit thin..

I used to have a proper oldskool 1970's percolator, picked it up in a charity shop, made a right fucking noise, and took ages, and was a bugger to clean...

Then i got a cafetierre, which i liked....

But since getting an espresso macine, thats it, I've found coffee heaven.

Inso, beans....Im sure good quality preground is very good, and I'd probably struggle to tell the difference, but I'm a bit like brimz, I love the whole process...its a shame, as there's a lot more choice in any shop (supermarkets etc, not coffee shops) of preground than there is of beans...but, when you open up the grinder in the morning after you've ground a batch, the smell is unreal, much more fruity and sharp than when you open a bag of preground, so I think it is better, there must be some loss of aroma or freshness when you buy even the best preground....

I like Ethiopian coffee, my missis bought me a corker from Whittards, I can't remember which one it was though :( , i know her dyslexia/spazziness meant that she didn't realise £12 was a bit more than i normally pay for coffee....

you and your speed balls. yeh coffee and methadone...had the best rosy glow today...heroin methadone sleep coffee. a lil bit of rest and recuperation after all my hard work
 
yeah a 250g bag of beans, somehow she thought it was a special offer :? she was well happy with the top deal she got, I was very happy with the coffee :D
