A young festival goer died from inhaling a single drop of a new synthetic hallucinogenic drug called 25-I at a music festival.
Clayton Otwell, from Arkansas, took the small but fatal dosage from a stranger on Saturday night at New Orlean’s Voodoo Experience and went into convulsions 30 minutes later.
The 21-year-old with dreadlocked hair was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was placed on life support, but died on Tuesday.

Tragic: Clayton Otwell (pictured), 21, from Arkansas died after inhaling a single drop of hallucinogenic drug 25-I at the Voodoo Experience festival in New Orleans.
Otwell's mother, Dayna Duncan, said she hopes justice will be served to the person who gave him the fatal drop.
'I think he needs to be exposed and held accountable for his actions,' she told the Times-Picayune.
New Orleans Police Department told the Daily Mail that Otwell’s death is an active investigation and there are no arrests and no suspects at this time.

Otwell and a close friend had made a pact never to take drugs from strangers, but Otwell broke that promise after drinking several vodka-Red Bulls, said the friend who was with him at the time.
Otwell was among three known people treated for 25-I overdoses during Voodoo Experience weekend, one local emergency room doctor said.

Overdose: Otwell took the substance at the Voodoo Experience, where the likes of Jack White (left) played over the course of the weekend

Toxic: Friends of Otwell's said that dealers were passing drops of the drug round during the festival
Friends of all three patients believed that it was their first times taking the experimental drug.
A Drug Enforcement Administration agent, Bob Bell, said that 25-I is an extremely potent synthetic substance that the DEA considers comparable to LSD and therefore outlawed in all 50 states.
The drug is also referred to as 'N-Bomb' for its chemical composition 25I-NBOMe.
New and experimental drugs like 25-I have grown in popularity in recent years partly due to the misconception that they are safe and legal.

Exposed: Otwell's mother, Dayna Duncan, wants the drug dealer who sold her son the drug at the weekend-long festival to be brought to justice.
Two teenagers in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and a 16-year-old boy in Sacramento, California, are believed to have died from 25-I overdoses earlier this year, according to DEA officials.
Otwell's friends said dealers at Voodoo Experience had been giving out drops of 25-I throughout the weekend-long festival, promoting the drug as artificial acid and artificial mescaline.
Voodoo Experience is known for its mixture of local Louisiana performers and high-profile artists, including R.E.M., Eminem, Jack White and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was first held on Halloween Weekend 1999.
In 2007 the festival expanded to three days and broke all previous attendance records with an estimated 100,000 plus fans.
A friend of Otwell’s created an online memorial fund to help raise money for his grieving family.
Levi Gould, who created the page, wrote: 'Clayton was an amazing son, brother, and friend. His memory will never be forgotten as he will live in our hearts forever.
'He shined his light on so many people and had such a positive influence on anyone he came into contact with. Lets all help to provide support to his family during this tragic time.'

See this is what I was talking about in the alcohol overdose thread. Considering the amount of people at music festivals compared to the amount of people at the alcohol party, the danger is clearly greater with alcohol. Not that this isn't sad that 25-I is implicated in a death and some hospitalizations (who knows if it really is 25-I though, or at what dose), but this whole blowing shit out of proportion is getting really tiresome with 'legal highs'. Promoting it is artificial acid or mescaline is also really frustrating as well. If products were better regulated this wouldn't be an issue.

It's likely that the fact that he was also taking alcohol and caffeine had something to do with the death. I'm curious as to what dosage he was given.

It also said in one of the articles that they found a bottle of 25i on one of the guys. I asked around town and found out the guy who they found the vial on wasn't even there for an overdose he was beaten. So I assume the doctors assumed that it was 25i as a result.

Whats the deal with 25i is it really that dangerous or are people just fucing up the dose?

It's sold by the gram or even ounce for so cheap it's ridiculous.

People who are too dumb to lay blotter are apparantly putting it into liquid and selling it openly.

The blotter is so cheap - anyone too dumb to lay blotter obviously is too dumb to entrust measuring anything that small.

A lot of the blotter is fucked up too.

Was bound to happen. Must be a cheap drug to make. Hopefully mine arrives soon.

It isn't proven to be 25I on it's own. There has been no toxicology report to confirm 25I was the sole contributor.

Few questions to ask:

Where is the proof it was in fact 25I in the dropper? Could it have been.... something else?
What other drugs were in his system if any (red bulls , alcohol and what else if applicable)
Any medical conditions that are not being released? Nobody's business, but can contribute and create a unique situation and result.
What dropper was used and how many drops? This will determine approximate amount of 25I .

poly drug use can have consequences, legal or not.

Condolences are with the family of the deceased, sorry to read about this.

It's strange that an austere academic journal such as the Daily Mail did not thoroughly address these nuances.

The bomamines are too potent by weight to be available to the general public without seeing some serious problems arise. I'm frankly surprised we haven't seen more deaths.

Prob some of those 1mg+ blotters going around. Fucking rediculous.

At the very least, lay it like acid. 1 hit, one low-med strength trip (500ug imho).

I'll be willing to bet, it was someone who did not know jack about the drug, and was given a strong solution, or some of those blotters you have to half/quarter if you don't want to go to the moon in sputnik satellite. Or someone just ate a bunch of them thinking they were/have the same saftey profile of acid.

Get your nbomes now before they are emergency scheduled since people will swallow whatever BS their gov/media tells them when it comes to RC's.

The general consensus is "i don't know what it is, so lets call it a bathsalt, bathsalts turn you into a face chewing maniac, are worse than pcp, and fry your brain. ergo someone please think of the children and let the feds ban it since i can't think/research critically, and think something is true because the nice people on tv said so, and our trusting/watchful Big Brother is there to take care of itiots like me".

Its really not an uncommon thing for the police today in the present day. Police love it because they can end up charging the assailant with anything from manslaughter to murder instead of just charging them with distribution or possesion, especially when it comes to 'legal highs'

So does that mean if a bartender hands a really drunk person the last drink that gives them alcohol poisoning and kills them, we can charge the bartender?
