To simplify this discussion lets use the vicodin 5/500s and percocet 5/325s. As these seem the be the most commonly prescribed pain killers for moderate pain. I am able to convince doctors to precscribe the one or the other one a fairly regular basis due to past surgies or "accidental" injuries. The doctors are usually more happy to prescribe the vicodin knowing it is a lower class. Of course I like anyone else (i presume) would prefer a percocet to a vicodin. I tend to get 20 here, 40 there of either or, from the ER , family dr. or orthopedic surgeon. The point I would like the make is that if I chew up 4 vicodin it seems basically the same as if I chew up 4 percocet, maybe just a little weaker. Unless I have been doing tons of percocet, then it seems like I have such a tolerance to it that eating an equal mg of vicodin would get me at least equally high as the percocet. Anyother difference I have noted is that the percocet works when snorted, although a little rough. Vicodin seems to be worthless when snorted. My question is what is the real difference, I know the vicodin is a scheduel 3 and percocet is scheduel 2. I think I've heard that the percocet is an actual "opiate" and the vicodin is an "opiod" but really what is the difference? they both seem to work the same for pain relief, and cause practically the same high. Is the percocet harder to quit or something? thats another thing I've heard. I've been messing around with pills for 6 or 7 years now, managed to quit shooting the heroin which is good, but the pills have me hooked. Anyways, my recent prescription to vicodin got me wondering about these things because I chewed four of them up and and I didnt know better I could have sworn they were percocets.
Why do they both exist?
are some people alergic to one or the other? any info would be helpful just for the record.
