Day to day I still have my teacher , who is a great source of comfort for me, he is totally amazing and just a layman like me and you
I practice Shamata and vipassana and he told me when i am ready for Mahamudra he will show me

He teaches me Shamatha and because he is from a more Theraveda tradition I dont really listen as much as I SHOULD to him lol

I have been with him for almost a year, but he tells me when I am ready for Ngondro My teacher will appear to me and this is how the tradition dictates

Till then I study with him and John Renshaw who is based in London( he is the only qualified Yantra Yoga teacher in the united kingdom)

Go to bed Matt and concentrate on your breathing. I'm going to get on with that...now.ogs

Are you saying every day you -
read scripture?
meditate?
practise yoga?

Is that what all those fancy names and words mean lol...buddha would have a giggle you know :)

Have you every conditioned dropping the brand named gurus and just getting down to it? The "work" of it? What you're typing to me up there is all ego and name dropping, I don't relate to it...maybe its a london thing, maybe its just a trend, maybe I'm just not convinced and my heart goes out to you.

I really need to sleep its well past my bedtime. Bedtime, haha once a lama yeshe rinpoche told me sleep was the very best meditation haha.

I'll probably unapprove these posts in the morning, not exactly suitable for a druggy forum eh

I studied under Sogyal Rinpoche ( Rigpa) for several years Kate/liberal Media.

Its interesting you said :

LM, I've been thinking about that saying a lot the last couple of weeks. I think i've found a new spiritual teacher/kindred.. Sweet :)

'When the students ready the teacher appears'

We're learning about patience.

Hope you weren't literally under him YPDH... touch of the cult leader about him, allegedly

wiki said:
In 1994, a $10 million civil lawsuit was filed against Sogyal Rinpoche. It was alleged that he had used his position as a spiritual leader to induce one of his female students to have sexual relations with him. The complaint included accusations of infliction of emotional distress, breach of fiduciary duty, as well as assault and battery

Allegedly yeah I remember reading that. I didn't know him personally but I would be very surprised if those allegations were true. He'seemed to me to be a lovely chap with a great energy about him. It was pretty much mainstream Mahayanan Tibetan Buddhism connected to the Dalai Llama so he couldn't be described as a cult leader.

I loved the teachings at the time but I got spooked out by some empowerment ceremonies and invocations so I left . Ultimately, not long after I left that group, I found another spiritual path anyway.

Philosophy is overrated. A good friend of mine described Heidegger, Sartre, Camus etc as 'miserable buggers'. She was right of course.

I'm not saying Buddhism is a cult by the way, just that in general, I'm very wary of anyone who claims freehold on the truth and the way, so to speak...

The Guardian: The Lamas who give Tibetan Buddhism a bad name

I get what you're saying thirdeye squeegee but Sogyal Rinpoche really was quite orthodox. I wouldn't be surprised if he struggled with his sexuality though.

Just found this quote I rather like speaking of Carlos Casteneda.

We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.
Carlos Castenada

So true.

Morning all :) * tips hat at Ms Yellow *

I'm liking that turn of phrase very wary of anyone who claims freehold on the truth

That sums up my view on much of what I object to in organised religion.

I'm not a fan of dogma either. I think if a person is called to teach they have to retain a vast amount of humility otherwise the teaching is ruined and becomes authoritarian. Power corrupts apparently.
The lady I met the other week is so humble i'm so excited to have met her... shes a glower :D.. One of those people that radiates peace.

I fell asleep before I let my cat in last night. She's sat on the wet shed roof giving me a look that says 'How could you!'.

it most certainly isn't, it got me a degree. last year at uni gave up half of final year physics for 1st year philosophy. one of my better life moves... can't remember much about it except that it was a lot easier and more interesting than the physics

god bless the pussy cat, or buddha, allah , lucifer or mother earth. there is always something interesting here. this having a teacher master person i've read about it in books. is it any good? i feel at peace.
