Drug documentaries on TV / Internet

^ I dunno, I can see how Meth could have influenced his supreme fitness on the field as far as being able to train longer and harder then other Players but it's hard to tell how much influence it had. I think recreational drugs should be no interest in Sports but there is plenty of people who say how well they can trian on Meth so in some ways it could be argued as performance enhancing which makes me think he shouldn't have been aloud to continue playing.

I'm a big fan of his either way.

great watch he hits the nangs HARD

not sure about that... as far as Im aware, he never really used when he was training or had a game comin up.. it was more of a reward for him after the match or whatever but when he did have a few days off, he went hard :p

pretty sure the doco outlines this, cant really remember to be honest lol

Yeah I'm rusty on it too, watched it when it was on t.v, but I thought he was hitting it on the weekends during pre-season which if he was gearing up as much as he says he was. These affects would last well into monday, tuesday. I guess on the flip side though, training wednesday, thursday would be hell. So I guess it would even out a fair bit.

You'd be surprised with elite sport. Even on the comedown you still play out of your skin in my experience.

25 mins or so he's stating he never took drugs before a game, game day, 2 days before a game or during a game. Or ever taken performance enhancing drugs. He sounds pretty honest I guess, stating shortly after he is a drug addict etc.

have you seen ben cousins' face in the footage after the eagles won the 2006 grand final?

if these aren't classic amphetamine facial expressions - gaping jaw, dry lips stuck to his teeth(!), pallid skin- i don't know what are;

as for the last one...can anyone offer a non-drug related explanation for the little thin bit of tape around his right elbow?

i'm not a footy fan, and as much as i think cousins is a fool - i feel sorry for him as well. he's a victim of a stupid celebrity/media culture and the drug war.
having said that, i find it fascinating that his downfall was caused by his use of illegal drugs (and association with underworld folk) not his use of performance enhancing drugs.
looks to me like he lead his team to a grand final win whilst speeding off his chops, yet the AFL has managed to sweep that under the rug, and focus on his "addiction".
the mainstream media is always on message when it comes to drugs.
pure drug war logic! fun drugs can't increase performance, they only cause train wrecks (not both). if you're clearly on drugs but not fucking up - watch out! the media will hound you until you slip, or at least make it look like you have.
edit - ben's mate chris mainwaring thought he had it all worked out - had a job as a mainstream media tv presenter, was able to maintain a fairly innocent image (in regard to "hard drugs" anyway).
maybe he smoked a bit of pot, got caught drink driving once or twice; but that's socially acceptable for a surfie-boy ex-footy star. it wasn't till he OD'd on cocaine that his preferred drugs of choice became publicly known...

one thing that i find interesting reading through this thread is that some documentaries are blatant war-on-drugs propaganda, usually presented in typical tabloid "shock! horror!" style; others present an illusion of balance (yet ultimately advocate maintaining the status quo) and the few that actually present a balanced or totally opposing view on drugs (in whatever legal, social, medical etc context they are focusing on) are made independently.
it's hard to detach "public opinion" from "corporate propaganda" when there is so much misinformation fed to the people.

The Ben Cousins doco pissed me off, it seemed like mostly a big exaggerated story for the media to me. I know that you don't have to use everyday to be an addict, but his described use didn't strike me as particularly out of control. He used far less than most meth users I've known, and it seemed to me to be pretty much the epitome of 'recreational use' - use when you don't have other committments that the meth will negatively effect. He was able to take weeks off. I reckon the whole hoohaa over him being this terrible out of control addict who had to atone for his sins was probably the worst thing for him. There's nothing like believing you're an 'addict' - with all the stigma that holds - to make you start acting like one.

I agree except for the eyeballs. When you are blown up on the field/rink the refs and everyone else you are playing with can tell straight away. I have seen it happen before with a Psycho we had over from Canada that got deported for playing hockey on Meth and fighting everyone in sight.

Yes but it could have been after games and by training monday he could still be going, consequently making him train harder and be more fit for the games.

Yep his eyes hardly look massive or beaming in those pics. You'd think for a grand final they'd test the players for drugs too. Maybe he was on it a few days before or after, but I doubt during the game, unless he was somehow getting past all the drug tests, he apparently never failed a single one. How long does meth and coke take to clear thru the system for drug tests?

No way in hell could someone even do physical exercise on stims, have u ever guys tried it? Ive done it on mdma and also on meth. I get tired and puffed out in 2 mins, ur heart starts to race so fast too, ud think about stopping as soon as u start to avoid a heart attack. That being said I dont deny the fact that a lot of people are stoned on stims doing other things but to me this guy doesnt seem like he was high on meth. Meth will be in his system for the next 2-3 days min depending on how long he has been using.

One of my mates has a lifetime ban for it.

Brand New 2012 series:

Outlaw Empires

Each episode of KURT SUTTER'S OUTLAW EMPIRES tells the complete story of an iconic American outlaw dynasty — directly from the mouths of people who were on the inside. Through their no-holds-barred accounts, the series takes an unvarnished look at moment-by-moment experiences that were not only pivotal for the organizations themselves, but life-changing for the individuals telling the stories.

Good doco, had 2 kois blew my mind.

The doco interviews with Richard Alpert aswell and a few others I cant remember atm, will post up another doco shortly I found last night.

Ok I didnt watch it as my mind was in other places, but I found the trippy voices and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds playing in the background before the interview started amusing lol.

An interview with Albert Hofmann in 1983, by Don Rothenberg, PhD. Transcoded from VHS with some quality issues, this is nonetheless an interesting and previously unpublished interview with the inventor of LSD from 29 years ago.

To Catch a Smuggler

It’s a job where everything—the safety of their team, and the security of the nation—is at stake. But for these officers, it’s just another day at JFK.

Entheogen - Awakening the Divine within [Description Below]
NSFW:

Entheogen literally translates creating or generating god within, and this ancient knowledge of sacred plant teachers has the potential to transform the world if we can connect with the divinity within and all around. 'Entheogen Awakening the Divine Within' is a feature length documentary which invites the viewer to rediscover an enchanted cosmos in the modern world by awakening to the divine within through the ritualistic use of Entheogens or Psychedelics.

Stan Grof, Marilyn Schlitz, Ralph Metzner, Alex Grey, Terence McKenna, John Markoff, Daniel Pinchbeck, and Kat Harrison among others, postulate how the disenchantment of the modern world may be remedied by summoning the courage to take the next leap in the evolution of planetary consciousness.

The film examines the re-emergence of archaic techniques of ecstasy in the modern world by weaving a synthesis of ecological and evolutionary awareness, electronic dance culture, and the current pharmacological re-evaluation of entheogenic compounds.

The Best Marijuana Documentary (Canadian)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MESZh-_uyUQ (LOL @ 7:34 the black guy)
Here is a very comprehensive look at the question of marijuana; its history; its myths; the “war on drugs” where marijuana is highest on the list; the realities of increasing marijuana use in North America and increased incarceration (more prisons); the open use of marijuana in Canada; the large marijuana industry in British Columbia Canada; the many vested interests, from growers to prison builders and the legal profession, that want no change in the laws as they profit from it. Most of all it highlights the pressure on politicians by pharmaceutical companies who know of the medicinal properties of cannabis, but since they cannot make money on it they resist the idea of legalizing medical marijuana since it would reduce their profits - very educational.
