Tasered student had superhuman strength from LSD
A Brazilian student shared a tab of LSD with two friends in the hours before he was Tasered by police and died, an inquest has heard.
The drug left him paranoid, restless, and possessing "superhuman strength" as he tried to avoid arrest, the Coroner's Court at Glebe was told today.
The coronial inquest has begun into the sudden death of Roberto Laudisio Curti, who died following an altercation with police during which officers fired their Tasers at least 14 times as they tried to restrain him.
Mr Laudisio Curti, 21, was pursued through the CBD in the early hours of March 18 this year, after reports of a robbery at a King Street convenience store.
However, in opening remarks today, counsel assisting the inquest, Jeremy Gormly, SC, revealed there was some confusion about what had taken place.
Mr Laudisio Curti had apparently stolen two packets of biscuits as he fled the store in an agitated state, but this was mistakenly transmitted over police radio as an "armed robbery".
