What drugs should I avoid if THC makes me paranoid?

i'd like to try more drugs but i'm terrified of getting paranoid. I smoke almost daily now with little effect but occasionally still feel a little paranoid. My first few times getting high were terrifying and made me never want to try again. The first time I was with people I didn't really trust in a sketchy stairwell in some apartment building and I remember feeling like they were going to kill or rape my friend and me and I was terrified I was going to jump off the roof. I was scared of going down the elevator so we took the stairs...it was the scariest feeling of my life, it was like climbing a tree and not being able to climb back down...anyway, i'd like to know what drugs to avoid because I don't want to have a bad trip on anything. I've tried hydrocodone, ether, ketamine (didn't really have an effect-maybe didn't do enough). I hate losing control of my mind and not knowing whats real like that and want to try drugs that make me happier/more talkative/etc. Sorry if i'm sounding like an idiot lol. xo

I think Celesta is just trying to ask if a person has a bad experience with cannabis if there are specific other drugs that they are likely to have a bad experience with as well. Like if someone hated oxycodone, for example, it wouldn't be considered weird or stupid to ask if there are related drugs that are likely to affect them the same way.

EDIT: Wrote that before Celesta's last post :)

The thing about cannabis is that it's pretty much in it's own class, the only thing similar would be synthetic cannabinoids, which I would definitely avoid if weed is unpleasant for you.

You might want to avoid or be cautious with psychedelics as well. Personally I don't like weed and it often makes me self-conscious and not in control and I end up wanting it to be over, but I actually enjoy most psychedelics. But from what you said I'm not sure if you would like them and mindset and setting can play a huge role in the experience.

It does sound like maybe you just smoked way too much the first time or were just in a bad situation etc, if you now smoke "almost daily" and have only occasional paranoia. The best things you can do when considering trying any new drug are:

- thoroughly research the effects and possible side effects of any drug well before you try it
- read both good and bad trip reports and decide whether the effects sound like something you would enjoy/be able to handle or not
- start with a smaller dose than recommended
- and of course read up about the possible health effects, risks of overdose, risk of addiction, contraindicated drugs, etc

Personally I would be more inclined to think someone who gets paranoid from THC would more need to steer clear of more trippy drugs than stimulants. I think stimulant paranoia is a different kettle of fish to hallucinogen paranoia and weed paranoia falls more into the latter category.

I think they should probably avoid mushrooms.

^ Psychedelic drugs in general should be avoided if you don't want to experience that "terrifying feeling" you've had from pot because I think most people can vouch for me on this, but it can get a lot more terrifying if you're on say LSD or Mushrooms and the trip starts heading south.

My first comment is that you quite likely just smoked too damned much weed, in a situation that wasn't really appropriate. Modern weed is very potent, and people who smoke heavily often forget that a single hit of modern weed may be plenty for someone who is not a regular user. That said, there are certainly people who always get that sort of response from weed.

Accepting the cannabis doesn't treat you well, I would:

* Certainly avoid cannabinoids (all those "spice" smoking blends, as well as natural cannabis)
* Approach psychedelics with caution - there are a fair number of reports of users finding that cannabis caused intolerable paranoia, but who can use psychedelics without trouble (at least with appropriate dosing). And of course, there are people who have bad responses to psychedelics too. Try only around trusted friends in a good setting (and if you can't find either of those, don't take it), and you might want to have a benzo on reserve incase the trip goes badly
* Avoid abuse of stimulants - paranoia in response to large doses of stimulants, or to a multi-dose binge is common.
