Tips for Cute Suprise

I met and fell in love with a German exchange student and am going to visit him on the 1st of January. I told him I would never learn German because it's ugly and I don't want to make such sounds with my mouth ever...which was a huge (and intentionally mean) lie because I've just starting taking German at my university!

I have a knack for languages and will certainly apply myself with all the dedication of a stupid young person in love. My German will still be basic (it's only 3 months study after all)...but what I am asking is, what is a good way to reveal this surprise? (As in...should I do it in front of him alone? In front of people? Prepare something to say? Not say anything and start talking to a stranger?) I have no idea what is best! I know he'll be thrilled no matter what, but I'm looking for maximum shock value/happiness to come from the reveal.

Having taken two years of German and had a foreign exchange student myself (more a brother though, than a love interest), I only break out my German when I'm drunk...

I'd say just start talking to him in German and he'll be surprised and probably turned on, so be prepared zu ficken.
