What are you drinking? - "Someone is bringing you ice?"

I have a bottle of cachaça there but nowt to mix it with and the Co-op doesn't sell limes!! Might get a bag of ice and a few lemons and see how that tastes.

Dogs gay balls, just call it a spade cock-tail. On special in asda right now...can't remember price tho' lol

These are wild damsons, i think. They may be bullaces. They're quite sweet. Sloes are the same but smaller and really bitter.

They come from green things called trees :)

You can make these drinks with them, for free. (apart from the alcohol but Asda gin is best so relatively cheap)

That on the right is slider, which is a west country thing. Its rough cider over the alcoholic left over sloes once you strained the gin and leave for a couple of months. Its nice in the summer with lemonade & ice. It'll put you on your arse though.

I've never bought it but i'm told bought tastes different.

slider?!!? I've never heard of that, but that looks fucking good.

Worth making sloe gin just for the slider by-product, much like I used to like growing weed more for the hash i'd make from the trimmings than for the buds.

damsons and plums have done really really badly down here this year. Apples and blackberries have done brilliantly. Those damsons/bullaces look fantastic bandw. :D

I hear Somerset had really poor apple season. Just hope Westons and thatchers have contingency plans.

Absolutely crap. I walked round a orchard this afternoon and there was about 1/5 of the apples there were last year :(

Damson vodka sounds rank but I want to try making blackberry vodka.

And last year I found 2 huge mirrabelle trees on what used to be old farmland so they should be ready soon. I'd never even heard of them but apparently they're really sought after for jam making. They're right next a big council block of flats as are the most amazing blackberries (I'm guessing they're hybrids with cultivated blackberries) and not one single person ever goes out and picks either :(

the blackberries hthis year, just unreal, 3 weeks now at least I've been eating handfuls of the fuckers every day...

I love the lottery of blackberry picking/eating....sometimes the plumpest juiciest looking specimens have a real tart face twisting edge to them, other times the tiny deformed lop sided looking things can be the sweetest around, no two bushes are the same....

I've heard the name mirabelle, but I think some company in Spain was named Mirabelle, or its a house name I dleiver to or something, or I've seen it written on the side of a nectarine box....but didn't know it was a fruit in its own right....what the fuck is one? Is it like an apple, a plum, a quince?

Its like a tiny bright yellow plum, the stone takes up most of it but they're really nice.

I know what you mean, now you mention it I've seen the name somewhere regularly, but it can't be in association with the fruit or we'd know it.

Maybe people think they're poisonous berries, I was just walking by and recognised the leaves so nibbled a bit and it was sweet so looked them up. They don't seem common in the UK, must have been a forward thinking farmer cos they built on the land about 60 years ago. Or maybe a sea-faring sailor had some and spat the stones out :)

there's hotels called The Mirabelle? sounds like a Torquay hotel, I might have had a dirty weekend at the Mirabelle once, if I haven't it's on my to-do list.

Anyone had a whiskey sour?

Sounds no bad. I fancy changing up my booze so I might get on this at the weekend. Can I just buy lemon juice? It's going to be a bit impractical to rock up at a party with 50 lemons.

Just seen this on page 1 and it made me lol
